Gopher Volleyball 2022 Season

I think we have a real shot at 3-1 (loss to OSU). But no matter what this Penn St game is likely to set the tone for the rest of the year
Having to play back-to-back nights @ OSU and then @ Nebraska? I can't see them having enough energy left to pull off an upset in Lincoln. Could see them winning in Columbus.

Oof, I was mixing up the order. That’ll be tougher. If CC doesn’t pick up the back court and if our mids can’t close the block we’re toast

Have you heard anything more about Wucherer?

Getting info out of Hugh is impossible, so probably we won't know until/unless she is on the court.

I mean no offense ... I like having Landfair and Wenaas as the OH, Wenaas 6 rotation, and Crowl as the RS.

I think that's a solid lineup that we should be damn happy with, if we have to go that the rest of the way.

Hanson can be a solid change of pace on either pin side.

Absolutely nothing. I didn’t think her hand was taped up on the bench last game but it was hard to tell so I may be wrong

To be honest I love Landfair- she’s probably my favorite on the team- but I’m a little tired of all the tips. I like the idea of experimenting where Wucherer and Landfair sub front/back respectively

Oh wait, what am I saying, Landfair plays 6 rotation because they use her to hit backrow occasionally.

But I thought I see Wenaas back there too?

Does Kilkelly just DS for the RS?? I'm all confused now.

BRB I’m going to go watch highlights to figure it out… somehow I never quite wrapped my head around it (the way Elise comes in to serve, gets replaced by CC, and then CC still serves)

Elise must sub out the other middle when they rotate back. Libero can only serve for one middle.

If Kilkelly is the only sub we're using (for the RS), then we have subs to burn and can get away with that.

Ah I was forgetting that CC subs in twice per full rotation where Elise is half that. I’m seeing Landfair Kilk CC, Jenna Carter Mel. (165, 432). Now I’m even more confused

I think it's just this:

S - Schaffmaster
Opp - Crowl/Kilkelly (backrow & serving sub)
H1 - Landfair 6rot
H2 - Wenaas 6rot
M1 - Davis/CC (libero backrow & serving)
M2 - Booth/Elise (serving sub)/CC (libero backrow)

Something like that, I may have order and numbers mixed up somewhat.

Yeah, that looks right… it would be so much easier to confirm if they showed the court before the ball is crossing the net on the serve 😅

Here's a question for all of you... given what's at stake, how experimental do you want to see Hugh in these last two weeks? Do you want to see us moving Jenna around, splitting between Naya/Carter/Arica (maybe even Husemann), trying different serve receives, etc? Or do you think we should pick a gameplan and practice that through the end?
In a late response to this post....those of us who have followed the program for some time now know that Hugh is a HC who doesn't move his players around and only subs if he absolutely has to. Now usually that is do to injury or illness. So once you have started for Hugh in a position you will every season while you are a Gopher Volleyball player.

When a player is struggling, he has been known to sub them out for a few plays or possible the rest of a set. But that is truly such far and in between times, when it has happened.

What I am shocked about, is how he has agreed to the interchanging of our middles this season. This has been a wonderful surprise and positivity for the program this season. All four of our middles have been able to show us their talent. However, I agree with Gophers_4life that Mel's BEST CONNECTION is with Booth. Why I am not sure...but she has been the middle who has had the most success with the quick set and slide.

If Wucherer was not out right now, Wenaas would be our Opp and McWu our starting OH along with Landfair. It always comes down to Hugh's MO.

Some hope for our game against Penn St: on September 15th, I got my CC McGraw NIL shirt. That night, she had a season-high 19 kills. This morning my Landfair shirt came in, that means we’re looking at upwards of 28 kills tonight

Excellent work!

Good thing we didn’t start Elise after how horribly that went last time

It has felt like we’re losing the whole game, even in the times we’ve been ahead. We’re still in this but we have to play smart and get good passes

Also I didn’t realize this but Nebraska has to play Wisconsin Friday. Sure they’ll be home for both but they won’t be fresh coming in either

Disappointing loss. They didn't quit. Fought hard. If they could have gotten off to a better start or played as hard at the beginning as at the end, the result might have different. Penn State is a tough place to play--only two teams (Michigan, Ohio St) have won at Penn St this year. Maybe, Wisconsin and/or Purdue will beat them on their home court. Got to focus on Rutgers. Tough for Gophers ending up with Ohio St. and Nebraska. They should be match tough by tournament time.

Right, looks like we're switching with Wisconsin both this weekend and next. PSU plays Wisc tonight, and will be softened up after a high-intensity, high-emotion, draining match against the Gophers last night. Look for Wisc to roll. I'll be cheering for PSU, but I expect a letdown.

Then similarly, Ohio St plays Wisc next Sat night, after we play OSU on Fri night. Possibly again, expect the same thing.

We could now very easily be looking at 1-3 for the two weekends. Hope they can pull it off at Ohio State, probably the best chance for a win.

So, I know that bad plays always stick in my mind much more than routine good plays. Thus what I'm about to say is likely not fully fair. The best way to look at it in vball is always to look at the stats, and hence why coaches always have live stats constantly being updated, to help them make decisions.

But G-D .... Landfair and CC really had some awful plays last night.

The whole team was asleep at the wheel the first two sets. Really disappointing.

Love to see the fight and coming to life the 3rd and 4th sets.

There was no touch on the match winner, terrible call. But of course Hugh absolutely biffs it on the challenge, as Weatherington's foot was nowhere near the line! Awful waste of a challenege.

And hat's off to Weatherington. I have never seen, in vball, someone as "large" as her (not trying to be a dick, is what it is) move around as athletically as she does! Incredible athlete!

Bolded: if they aren't already by now, with the schedule they've had this season, then they never will be.

Hope they can somehow get a top 8 seed, but not seeing it at this point.
