Gopher Volleyball 2019

I don't think they would've beaten Texas in Austin. Shocked that Louisville pulled that off, Texas was clearly overlooking them. That was Louisville's Super Bowl, then they didn't have enough in the tank to keep rolling. Seen that type of situation hundreds of times. Minnesota hugely benefited and now gets to have a final four season because of it. Well deserved ladies! Anything from this point is gravy!

Really don't see much of a chance to beat Stanford, but you never know.

I tend to agree. All pressure is on the seniors of Stanford. Maybe they play tight like we did against Oregon last year and who knows?

"don't see much of a chance to beat Stanford...." I think we all feel that dreadful apprehension about Gophers getting stomped, but I for one would like to hope for the best. As long as the hope lasts, I'll cling to it.

here. we. go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It'll all be on the the serve receive

Really hope they play loose as Stanford is the favored team. Go Gophers !

Gopher contingent spread out in the audience here, as Baylor UW game coming to a close. This 930 EST start is a tough one. Games needed to start an hour earlier.

Plummer on her game, Samedy not so much. This has to change.

Tbh, I think they need PJ Fleck to come and give the team a pep talk. half the team playing flat.

Stanford is simply better. Great season with all the injuries.

Stanford and Plummer were simply too good. Oh well, helluva season for us.

Gophers return a lot of major players next season. I don't really follow the recruiting scene much in volleyball...how do the recruits look for next year?

Might be the best class in the country. At the very least, it's top three.

Have the No. 1 overall prospect in the nation coming in Taylor Landfair (6-4 or 6-6 outside hitter depending on who you ask), No. 3 overall prospect in Jenna Wenaas (6-0 outside hitter) and the No. 16 overall prospect in Melani Shaffmaster (6-4 outisde hitter/settter). Also have Cami Appiani, who is slated as more of a defensive specialist/libero. She comes in from Torrey Pines High School in California, one of the nation's best high school programs.

In other words, the class is pretty good!

As for the season, not bummed in the least about how it finished.

This was a team that had plenty of obstacles to overcome this season and still found a way to get to the Final Four.

Still a lot of good pieces back next year and with the recruiting class coming in, the team will be just fine imo.

Congrats ladies on a fantastic 2019 campaign. Also, good luck to the seniors! We'll all remember your time in maroon and gold with fondness!

We "should've" lost to Texas in Austin in the regional. Louisville shocked the world, good for them, and we benefited by getting them right after when they had run out of steam.

Not taking anything away from the Gopher ladies. They busted their buns trying to make this season as best as it could be. Final Four was more than we could've hoped for. We were last year's Illinois.

Looking forward to the future!

All the upper teams in the B1G will be loaded next year. Most of the big guns were underclassmen.
Stephanie S has to become the alpha kill machine, like Plummer and Foeke. Does she have the personality to do that? The other obvious difference, is the team that wins every year has out of the world Libero play. CC looked to be heading that way, but perhaps her leg injury held her back. The last one we had was Paula G. The gal from Stanford was insane last night. She must have a full body bruise.

Please God, let Stanford smoke Wisconsin. Still pissed at Barnes.

Does anyone with more volleyball knowledge than me know what the difference was between the early-season Gophers win over Stanford and last night's match? Was it something the Gophers did in September that managed to control Stanford's hitting, or was Stanford just off on that day?

I'm the farthest thing from knowing much about VB, but I'd say simply: Stanford had Plummer last night and MN didn't. What happened in September? Stanford had a tough match w/ PSU the night before. MN didn't.

Plummer was absolutely awesome. Not that I'm a volleyball aficionado, but that was the best "big" game by any single player I've personally seen. Every time she smacked the ball it just sounded "different" from the hits of every other player on the court. And it went where she wanted it, and fast and hard. We didn't have Plummer. That was the main difference. The Gophers played hard. Arguably, they didn't play badly (though other than Hart, it didn't seem they were on top of their game). Stanford was simply better.

Also, I will note that I was a bit disappointed in the Gopher contingent in the crowd. It seemed the Gophers brought the least fans of the Final Four teams, their section of fans was the most sparse, and I hope somebody can provide a good excuse for the U not to send a pep band and/or cheerleaders. The other three teams brought theirs.

I wish.

Just don't think it's gonna happen. They have too much. Haggarty, Retke, Hilley, Clark ... too much.

But Stanford is definitely the team that could take them out. That's for sure.

You gotta give Plumford credit. They took out the Big Ten's Penn State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in nine straight sets. Congrats!

Had Plummer played the full year, she would have been a 3 time POY.

Wisconsin coach was almost speechless during his interview between sets. He was able to put a sentence together and said Plummer is the best non all-american in the history of the game. The missed games by Plummer is the only thing that kept her from be POY.

Plummer and Hentz were women amongst girls in these semifinals. It is notable that it seems of PSU, Minn, and Wisc, Minn played Stanford the closest overall (-14). Gophers should be in a position to bring a top tier squad again next year. They need Samedy to play like Plummer, though, to win it all.

Thanks Stanford. Hard to cheer for the skunks no matter what the sport.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked it when the announcer called them the “Gophers of Wisconsin.”
