Gophers down Notre Dame in the opener, 4-1. Groenewegen had 15 Ks while Krueger and Lindaman both went deep. Partain had three more hits. Same two teams tomorrow morning.

Nothing better than kicking butt nationally with a team led by frosh, in a sport where the athletes rarely, if ever, leave early for the pros.

If they can come close to replacing SaraG, they could be a dominant force for a long time. I knew hiring this coach was going to lead to great things eventually, but she really got this program kicking butt pretty quickly, now with recruiting like this, they could rise to whole other level?
 

Who gets the ball against the Irish tomorrow? Finucane, Fiser or Brandt? Also does Allister move Groenewegen out of the 3 spot in the order for awhile?
She has been getting Houlihan off the field defensively when she can and also does the same thing offensively with Arneson, although this game with Groenewegen pitching, she hit for her the entire game.

I'm guessing Finucane tomorrow vs. Notre Dame while either Fiser or Brandt will go against N.C. State. I have no inside info to support that viewpoint, just my opinion. Not sure what's wrong with Sara at the plate, but I'm thinking she's got to come out of it at some point. Macken also off to a slow start, but it's early. One thing is for sure, the newcomers can really play.

Michigan clobbered North Carolina State 12-0 in 5 innings in the other game today. Betsa went 4 innings, 9 strikeouts, 1 hit, no walks, 65 pitches. Watched some of it on ESPN. She looks in good shape.

Shoot, I just got back from running some errands so didn't stay on top of the Gopher/Irish game. Nice outcome!!
3-2 in extra innings. Great.

See that Notre Dame upended Michigan earlier today, 6-4.
 


Gophers all over NC State 11-0. Fiser goes 4 innings and Judge goes 1. Macken has a day. Lindaman looks like a power hitter. Glad to see Judge get in. All the new players certainly looked like players.

Really, really idiotic of me, but.....I had to look up the Gopher career record on home runs after seeing Lindaman hit that ball in the second inning.
 




Gophers defeat the Wolfpack 7-1. Dwyer, Wagner and Chell hit home runs. Groenwegen throws 5 innings with Brandt getting the last 2.

9-0. Nice start to the season. I have to imagine we'll be seeing a top ten ranking this week. Notre Dame, who we beat twice, was a top 25 team last week.

Weather was delightful.
 

Partain 2-2 in the second game and was on base all 4 times. Gophers beat a top 30 team in Fresno St 9-2. We're unstoppable at 11-0 and on cruise control. Groenewegen isn't even hitting yet and we're scoring a lot. The freshmen have been fantastic and we actually have more pitching this year. First time I've felt we've really been equipped for a deep run at the NCAA's. Will be interesting to see how we do against Washington in 2 weeks (they eliminated us last year iirc).


I looked through our schedule and did a best guess at games. I put us at 52-1 going into the Big Ten Tournament...

Watching the juggernaut Arizona now in the Mary Nutter Classic tournament. Would LOVE to see Minnesota play them. Both teams have a mix of experienced and young talented power hitters and depth at pitching. Maybe in the playoffs.
