Never mind. Tried to do a numbers comparison between Sara G and Betsa, but it ended up without any order.

Sporting the longest winning streak in Division-I, a program record for wins (51) and their first Big Ten Conference regular season title since 1991, the Gophers seem to have earned the respect of the nation.

Minnesota is ranked No. 2 in the most recent USA Today/NFCA top 25 coaches poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Gophers (51-3) received five first-place votes, the same number as third-ranked Oregon, and trail only Florida (50-5) in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.

Minnesota enters this weekend’s Big Ten Conference tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., as the top seed. The Gophers, winners of 22 straight, will play the winner of the first-round game between No. 8 Northwestern/No. 9 Purdue in a quarterfinal matchup at 11 a.m. Friday. The entire tournament will be televised on Big Ten Network.

A second straight conference tournament title would lock up a top-eight seed for Minnesota in the NCAA tournament, meaning the Gophers would host a regional and, should they advance, a super regional on the road to the Women’s College World Series.

How can they justify UCLA at #4 with 13 losses? 16-6 at home. Losses to Kentucky (18), Oklahoma (6, lost 10-1), FSU (4), FL (1), Baylor (16), 3* to Utah (13), Washington (8), Oregon (3), 2* to Oregon State (UR 27-23 overall), Arizona (5).

They're certainly losing to good teams (besides the Utah sweep and 1-2 vs OSU), but at least 20 of their wins are against awful teams, putting them with 2 bad losses and like 20-11 against better teams.

We were rather unfortunate with how our SOS ended up... Allister scheduled some solid teams but they just happened to be having down years unfortunately. Texas, Notre Dame, FAU, CAL, Nebraska, are all teams that end up near the top 20-25 most years.

Personally, pretty excited about the Big Ten tourney. Everything goes through Ann Arbor. Michigan at home, on a 9 game streak, Betsa claimed Pitcher of the Week honors, Canfield was awarded Player of the Week. Really hope both teams get to the finals.

Michigan basically had a bye week though. You shouldn't be allowed to win a player of the week award after playing Rutgers ;)

During our Gopher rain delay the other day - BTN did a live look in on the Michigan - Rutgers game, and yikes was it bad.

In case you haven't seen it...google Rutger's softball stadium.
 


Minnesota gets the winner of #8 Northwestern - #9 Purdue.

Wildcats are 24-28 overall and 10-13 in conference. They sit at 65 in the RPI index and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. They divvy out the pitching pretty evenly between 3 starters, none of which are dominating (probably why they go with 3). That being said, they've played a tough out of conference schedule. Baylor, Arizona, twice against Florida State, Pitt twice, Georgia, Washington twice, Florida, California. Really lack home run power and occasionally have games where they kick the ball around. They will run, 87 out of 101 in stolen base attempts. Left handed hitting center fielder, Sabrina Rabin, leads the team in hitting and is on a 13 game hitting streak. Shortstop, Marissa Panko, is right behind her in batting average and will steal bases also. They bat #1 and #3 in the lineup.
Gophers swept them in Minneapolis with the middle game being a tough 3-2 affair. Nicole Bond held them to 2 hits (both hits were home runs) in the 3-2 victory.

Boilermakers are 20-35 overall and 9-14 in conference. Their RPI is 134 and are 3-7 in their last 10 games. Gophers beat them very handily in Minneapolis, but they returned home and just got done sweeping Nebraska. Katie Johnson threw well for them in 2 of the games, although she sports a ERA in the 6 range. No home run power. Leader has 3. Hoppman, the shortstop, is 26 out of 27 in stolen bases. She has a difficult time in the field with 26 errors.

Northwestern swept them in Evanston and none of the 3 games were close.

She was very average hitting this year (which was a big strength of hers in previous years). That said, her ridiculous ERA and record is enough for anyone to know she should have been a unanimous selection. I bet the russian judge got us again...

Very strange, but like you say....congrats !!!!

Lindaman is the fourth student in Big Ten softball history to earn both the Player and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, duplicating a feat previously achieved by Iowa pitcher Karen Jackson (1991), Michigan utility player Sara Griffin (1995) and Michigan shortstop Sierra Romero (2013).
That is some serious company. Romero was so fricking good.

She deserved it to. She hit nearly .400 and is excellent in the field. Could easily be short stop if Allie hadn't joined the squad.

If the conference had an all-rookie team, she would have been a shoo-in. Sucks that she didn't make either first or second team considering she led the team in hitting for much of the season and was over .400 for a sizable chunk. Still, I figure she'll have plenty of other chances to be an all-league player. :eek:

Agreed. Not sure what happened there or who voted against Sara being first team, but she in the end, she got the recognition she deserves.

Her average hitting should have no effect on her being named unanimous to the first team as a pitcher. Betsa does not hit...
 


So, if the Gophers make it to the finals, does Allister go Groenewegen in all 3 games? She did it last year, but that was a different situation pitching wise.

Or you could go Fiser tomorrow in a game you should win no matter who is pitching. But I think you are right, it will be Fiser to start Saturday and Sara to relieve if the game gets dicey, which it won't.
