Gopher portal visits and signings

Yeah, there is zero chance Smith is moved inside on a permanent basis. In certain specific situations it could make a lot of sense to move him inside but he will do most of his damage from the outside.

As long as we can shore up the interior line it will be a lot of fun seeing what Smith and Menz can do next year. Having two really good DE like that can be a massive weapon and loved what I saw out of Menz this past season.
Menz was a terror at times. So many uncalled holds, but he often fought through them.

If any of the "ends" were to move inside, one would think it would be Anthony Smith. Being 6-6 285, he probably only needs 10-15 lbs. Not sure he would want to though. As for the NFL, he is probably not an edge in a 3-4, so he would be a strong side left DE in a 4-3. If he can get close to 300, he can play either ends in a 3-4.
That would be stupid...

Yes, but sliding inside from time to time is completely different than going full time.
yeah, not what I was suggesting him do that. would be a horrible decision for us and his draft stock. was pointing out that him sliding in occasionally wouldn't even help the current lack of DT depth bc he already does that.

I do think they only slide a DE into a DT spot on 2nd and long or 3rd and long to get more speed, quickness in the front four. They would not do it on short yardage plays which in most cases are run first situations.

Yes, moving Smith to a DT on obvious passing downs makes a ton of sense. The post I quoted seemed to insinuate doing that on a permanent basis which would not be a good idea.

That’s not how that post reads especially with the discussion about his position in the NFL.

The numbers always work out, etc. But I didn't expect two more WRs.

For the AARPies for certain, the classic 70’s sitcom “Sanford and Son” was based on the British comedy “Steptoe and Son”. So, when Zion takes the top off our opponent for the 1st time this fall, I swear I will stand up, demonstrably clutch my chest, stagger, and belt out: “I’m comin’ Elizabeth! I’m having the big one!! “

This would be an excellent portal addition. Looks like he has also taken visits to Penn St and Oklahoma St. Get it done, PJ!
Evidently, the man likes to travel. Seems unlikely we can offer the most money but we can offer playing time. Be a very nice addition to a great core of guys.

I'd be really excited about our team next year if I'd stop watching Indiana games. They are so good! Their receivers catch anything...contested, off target, too high, too low, too covered...no problem rip it way....it's mine.
I know a bunch of guys graduate but the coaching is supreme. Okay, this helped me...they do graduate a lot! Go Gophers!

I wonder if they will still try to sign Kaba who is another DT that visited.

Doubt he came back to move spots. But I could be wrong.

The genius that was Quincy Jones...

Interesting that the new WR’s scored no TD’s this year. Smith and Tracy combined for 10.
Ya, Cignetti in his evaluation doesn't care how fast you run...what's your production? Signed Saratt
out of high school or division two, three (don't remember which at JMU) because all he did was catch touchdowns and passes.
Whatever we are looking for in all these wide receivers....hopefully, it goes 10X better under Fruechte. But, we got candidates!
No wide receivers catch the ball better than Indiana wide receivers. So good on contested or even seemingly uncatchable balls. Mendoza has no incompletions because his receivers catch EVERYTHING!
