Eric Musselman, son of late former Gophers-Timberwolves coach Bill, will be using the same Harlem Globetrotters-type pregame warm-up at Nevada-Reno his father did at Williams Arena. The warm-up became legendary in the 1970s.

Musselman, 50, a two-time NBA head coach, is in his first season at Nevada-Reno. Bill Musselman died of heart and kidney failure at age 59 in 2000. Eric's first "Sweet Georgia Brown" pregame show will be for Reno's first home game against Portland State on Nov. 25.

Meanwhile, Musselman, not even a year on the job, currently has the 35th-best recruiting class in the country, according to Rivals.com.

two words = crazy George

I'm not sure if George Schauer was on scholarship or not (Eric Thrall's history site lists him as being from Cleveland, so I assume he was), but I remember that he would stay on the court and entertain with his ball-handling after warm ups and never went to the locker room with the rest of the team for the pre-game pep talk. He was there to put on a show.

You have to remember that this was the mid-70s... Pre Internet, pre-cable TV, etc. If you were a youngster like me, who had never seen the Globetrotters, the showmanship and atmosphere was pretty impressive.

I still think the event would create some buzz in the arena and give people a reason to get to their seats sooner. Way too many games have half full Barn at tip-off.

Not sure about practice time rules in the 70's but my guess is they were not as tight as now, making it a little more difficult for the current generation to get the routine's down.

Unfortunately I don't think any collegiate players could put on a display like that in this day and age.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

It's a big no-no to call them Nevada-Reno these days. Now they wish to just be the University of Nevada. Some dumb north-south rivalry thing, UN-R was there first so THEY shouldn't have to identify themselves with the "-Reno" clarifier, like UNLV needs the "-Las Vegas " attached.

Oh boy....

Anyone remember the season that Flip had some leg injury (hammy?) and had a wrap on his entire leg (foot to hip). Apparently a one-legged Flip was better than a two-legged backup.
