So, the entire time people were throwing those magazines up in the air - I kept thinking to myself, if you don't see it, and one of those comes at you - a corner could poke your eye out! Sure enough, one of my friends said there was a guy in his section that got hit by one, and was gushing blood everywhere.

I guess it's kind of ironic - you can't keep the cap on you soda, and there were guys that got kicked out of The Bank for an inflatable beach ball....but something dangerous like that goes on. I don't really fault them for giving the souvenirs away, it was nice - but maybe next time they could give them on their way out.

I'm just happy there was somebody in the seat to get hit in the eye with a magazine...

My biggest fear is this thing isn't going to get turned around and we'll have empty seats.

*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!##ng classy.

I would ban you now if I could.

You are a D0uche

Don't get what was with the throwing of the magazines

I'm not and never would throw anything at anyone. Even unintentional, people start throwing things around and other's get physically hurt. Doubt we ever see a giveaway like that again.
The magazines ended up being bad news.

I completely agree. What was most surprising to me is not that the students did it (throwing things around isn't really acceptable for an 18-22 year old, but I'm not surprised), but that the season ticket holders did it, too. I was on the away side right on the 50 yd line, lower deck, and the jerks above us threw down multiple magazines - these are (presumably) grown adults with enough money to afoord the expensive seats.. A USC fan got hit in the head, which is extremely unfortunate, then an elderly man right in front of me took a corner to the forearm, which looked pretty painful. I can't believe the only thing the staff did was make one announcement early on to the students that we could get penalized. They should have stopped all the crappy advertisements, games, etc and had somebody state anyone seen throwing something will be arrested. Unreal and I'm sure plenty of USC fans had a very bad experience because of this.

Most of the magazines came from the student section from what I could see. Apparently it was the young-adult version of throwing all of your toys out of the crib in a temper tantrum.

I felt terrible for the band, who being seated below the student section were the prime target of many magazines being flung from the upper deck. Very unclassy behaviour.

Also a massive fail for game-day operations.

someone screwed up

Who was the genius that decided it would be wise to put plastic-wrapped magazines on every seat? I don't think it was much of a surprise that a bunch of idiot fans would throw them around.

A guy three rows ahead of me got pegged in the forehead with a magazine, was gushing blood all over his face, and didn't come back for over a quarter.

...and he was a USC fan.

I'm guessing they won't be doing that promotion again

The most ridiculous example I saw was the clowns throwing magazines at the Gopher defense moments before the snap to defend a 2-point conversion.

Yeah, people in the band and the lower deck of the student section were regularly getting beaned by the magazines. Nothing like keeping one eye on the game and one eye on the sky.

brainless. Unless your a complete idiot, why would put anything that can be thrown into the student section. It goes back to who the hell is in charge?

^exactly. I'm pretty sure that in Athletic Promotions 101 they teach 3 basic rules:

1) Don't give people stuff they can throw.
2) No really, don't give people stuff they can throw.
3) If you still want to give people stuff they can throw, see Rule 1.

Thought it was crazy.. Didn't think much about it until the announcement.. Then I noticed some stuff hitting the field and got worried.

Would have never thought those things would have drew blood. That's too bad for the innocent bystanders.

Gotta admit.. They looked freaking cool up in the air after we went up 7-0.

Clearly there was not enough NFL music being pumped in to distract the fans from throwing things. Get it right, athletic department

I wonder if the students have thrown them at the other stadiums the SI tour has been to. I remember seeing them when I got into the stadium and the first thing that crossed my mind was "this is a bad idea."

Hmmm. I kept mine and brought it home. Read it last night.

I know, what a rebel.

The mags were a good idea, wrapping them in plastic was the problem.
