Gopher Hockey Season Thread 25-26

Have no idea how that 5th goal was called off sides. Wisconsin guy brought it back to his zone and even then it seemed like the gophers were inside.

overall that was fun. hopefully this was some young guys learning to win. I'm not optimistic but they have an additional 5 very winnable games in a row.

as an aside, BU now under .500 again. some of this is team softness and the chances they give up (shocker that a bunch of draft picks don't all end up cohesive or playing defense) but Yegorov has also been bad this year. His CHIP (CHNs factor of how important a player is basically) is lower than DiPasquo's and he's had a -4.62 xGA
But I was told Yegorov was the 2nd coming of Ken Dryden by an expert on here. Also, Maine is now 5-7-3 in Hockey East. That is not awe inspiring for the "next" Gopher coach....

I was seriously thinking of going last night but convinced myself not to using those lame excuses I hate...weather, will be a blowout loss, badger fans take over of the Mooch. Will be there tonight.

Not that it would have dramatically changed the results of this awful season but if we had this version of LDP in the first half of the season that’s worth probably at least a couple more wins.

Feeling good that he can be the guy next year. Airey has hopefully seen his last game wearing the M.
Agreed on all counts. Our D was also better last night. By light years. If we had that version of our D the entire year... the season would at least be a bit better too. Hoping they look just as good tonight. Agree with Bonin that the Badgers are not nearly as good as the Michigan teams, BTW.

If Airey is in goal tonight (and I don't think there is any way he will be) then I am joining Bonin in calling for the immediate firing of the coaches, the AD, the university president, the VP of student affairs, the admissions director, the arena management team, the ticket sales reps and the janitorial staff.

A fucking incredible play to save a Gopher goalie goal. What a shot by the goalie.
Yes it was. Wish I had that kind of hand/eye coordination. I would have loved for that to have gone in though.

Would be the first goalie goal in Gopher history unless I'm losing my memory/knowledge

Airey won't start tonight. Should be an opportunity to bring in a better goalie via the portal or CHL this spring to compete with LDP. But most of the best have been committing elsewhere already.

PP goal early......followed up by a shorty. 2-0, good guys.....ten minutes into the game.

This is tournament team level play. But what happened in all the other games? Now they have to win the conference tournament with three stacked teams

They played like this in spurts, but never consistently, even in the same period. They are not having as many extended brain fart minutes.

Made the trip down to the Cities for this one. Mariucci was rocking and I was frankly a bit surprised. Student section was tremendous. I had forgotten what it felt like to be so happy after a Gopher sweep! This looked like a different Gopher team.

God Hastings teams are unbearable to watch. So much acting and working the refs out there.
This is 100% true. PSU is the other team working it's way to the top of my dislike list. Hate their style too.

Great weekend, full stop. So much fun to watch them play at a high level.
