Gopher Hockey Season Thread 25-26

That loss is Motzko's legacy and now everyone is just wasting their time and money on this team until he's gone

Michigan star goalie out for a while. The NCHC teams sitting below the three Big Ten teams will now look to pounce on UM and uw for one seeds.

UND is going to get both star CHLers back for another year next year.

there's literally zero way to know this at this point, just like Michael Misa supposedly playing college (lol), Luke Misa going to do "extremely well" in college and was a 5 star, and that the CHL players were all going to dominate.

The NCHC is highly likely to get 2 1 seeds purely based on their conf SOS at the top. The B10 will get 1 for sure and possibly the 2nd one. there was no chance the B10 was going to end up with 3, the same as its highly unlikely they get 3. Just too many games against each other where you cannibalize yourselves.

it is a bummer deal on Ivankovic as a fan of college hockey. You want all the best players playing. Peck has decent numbers in Jr but obviously very different talent level in net

I'm wondering when school starts at Michigan. They added a player this weekend, before the goalie injury, even though that put them over the 26 player limit. Will they add a goalie as well? This is how they did it
"Michigan is constrained by the 26-man NCAA roster limit as it opted into the House revenue-sharing agreement. NCAA rules technically prohibit adding players midseason for teams constrained by that rule. However, using a designated spot for players who were promised roster spots before this rule went into effect, teams are able to make midseason additions in certain cases. Michigan’s roster now stands at 27 players with the addition of Muscutt."

Part of me hopes for complete ass kickings this weekend to help make Coyle's decision easier in March.

Those of us that watched Lucia be held on to for years too long know what's necessary for change to occur at a university built on mediocrity.
Anyone who roots for "their" favorite team to fail is not a fan. But, you don't go to any games this year or support the program...

Coyle will notice when the bottom line starts dropping with dropping ticket sales

So if they change coaches, will you go to games again even if they "suck" next year?

Yup, cuz it'll be a new regime and new style of play and lots of new faces. Maybe a team that'll actually hit somebody.

Maybe you don't realize but Gopher hockey is the only team I spend money on and care about. So I'll always be ready to buy tickets when I feel the program is moving in the right direction. It's not like I'm fair weathering my dollars over to the Wild this year.

BS. You are a frontrunner. You can support the program even if you disagree with the coach. When you don't support the U it hurts the program, not the coach....

You could say it hurts both, but it doesn't hurt the program nearly as much as the decision to not give the hockey team its fair share of the revenue sharing. Millions and millions vs hundreds a year from me. Individual fans like us are not going to move the needle on the pain the program needs to work around being so far behind on NIL.

The u and Mich

on channel 9. Is this Jim rich on the call? Jim Rich?

Hendrickson is scared to score goals

Fuck these guys suck
Tbh I have no idea what Bob is doing with this team. Some major regression from upperclassmen guys coupled with freshmen who are thrown into way too big of roles. Would it kill this team to hit someone at any point tonight? Early they were showing growth, playing a system and now it’s fallen apart

Getting older and heavier works if you play lunch pail hockey. Instead you’ve got bigger guys who don’t hit anyone and play like they’re 5’9” finesse players. Play your fucking responsibility and make them work for it ffs.

If every guy on the roster isn’t aware they’re playing for their spot on next years team at this point, you’re coaching them wrong. It’s well past the time for those kind of mistakes

The bolded part is the most concerning thing. Not going to name the players but there are several of them. But I do think part of that regression is being asked to play top end roles when they should be second or third liners. We are missing those 4-5 very top end guys. If we had them, I think some of the regression issues might disappear. I will give a number.... #17, as an example. Good player, but not going to be your top end guy consistently. Would be great as a third liner on most rosters. We also obviously have that on D.

Because it is the worst Gopher team of this century. And any non idiot saw it coming
Maybe I'm an idiot then because I knew it would be a down year but I didn't think we'd be this bad. We frankly should not be. From a pure talent standpoint, we have way too many draftees to be this non-competitive. I thought the goalies would improve at least a little bit. I thought maybe some of our guys could take the next step. I knew we'd be young and I thought we'd see improvement through the season. We haven't. So no... I did not expect the team to look this horrible.

Frustrating and disappointing year all around. Unfortunately this type of year can drive players to the portal and have recruits second guessing their commitment. Bob and company may have a very challenging offseason.
