Gopher Hockey Recruiting

After seeing the absolutely pathetic responses to losing by the Edina and Tonka kids, now more than ever the new coach needs to try to get more Moorhead/Warroad/Hibbing type kids.
Would be the advantage if you hired Rabs. He loves players from up north

Did you not see the response from the Hibbing kids? They were no different.

Lot of people had him and Mooney as similar comps. Good player who I’m sure Fersch will make productive.

A lot of the Hibbing kids did the same thing......

supposedly christian humphreys (Pittsburgh kid, played with Ziemer/Whipple class at NTDP, then to Michigan) committed. 81 points this year in the OHL

Should be solid middle six for at least two years. Wolverine reject to go along with our Spartan reject but it is what it is.

Maybe it was the Adam Benak shoe falling

adding to the band of misfit toys lol

But to me, obvious upgrade over some of the middle 6 upperclassmen we've put out there this year (Clark, Pahlsson) and would expect better productivity than Hendy. Kind of strikes me as similar to Kvasnicka in that he seems to have found a little better gear with an extra year of development up in the OHL

Going to be very interesting to if this means someone is being pushed out another year or is a portal. Should be a dynamic offseason if he's at all serious about retooling (though I do take this as a sign he's coming back as otherwise that's a super weird commit timing though I guess stranger things have happened)

I'm hoping, given we are taking both the Cullens, this means you're not seeing Nevers come in or that Bob has taken seriously that Harris, Falloon, Rud, and Begley are just not Gopher caliber players that are in the lineup (I get you need healthy scratch guys, but that's only if you're carrying a full roster)

Updated. If it's not Barr bringing his guys, you need still need four more impact forwards just to compete. If they keep Motzko it's such a fail.

Need to retain
Ziemer
Mooney
(2)

Can retain for at least one more year
Moore
Moe (prove it year)
Townsend (prove it year)
Hendrickson (prove it year)
Pritchard (prove it year)
(7)

Bring in
W Cullen
B Cullen (13th-15th forward)
Kvasnicka
(10)

Bring from Maine
Poirier
Nadeau
Mckinnon
(13)

Humphreys
Transfer Portal/CHL
(15)

Cut ties is fine
Ludtke
Pahlsson
Harris
Falloon

too much of this is too irrelevant until you know the coach. Any of these guys coming in is too unpredictable if you have a coaching change and you know this roster will get raided if so

That's why I caveated that if it is Motzko (ugh), I think he would still need at least four non-Nevers non-Katz commitments to move the needle next year and get rid of dead weight.

gotcha

I'm fine with Ludtke back, but he needs to be in a 3rd-4th line C grinding role (which is a problem on this roster). you missed Clark in your list, which he's definitely a take or leave guy to me. Agree with you he needs to rework the F group (with the D needing vastly more attention) to make this roster competitive nightly in what will be a stacked B10 again

PSU: assume will lose McKenna and Smith. The rest of the roster has some early flight risks (Fink, Cerrato) but they may return a hell of a lot pending how it goes
Mich: literally everyone who matters but Hughes (and Duke to a lesser extent) could come back. They'll lose some because there's a ton of high end talent
MSU: will unload quite a bit of senior talent, but they've got a great goalie coming in and a ton of talent back. Big kicker is what Martone and Lee do

Add to it, they'll all be heavy hitters in the CHL high end guys. Bob needs to keep adding as what's coming in on paper both up front and in the back isn't enough as it sits. Today's pickup is encouraging he realizes that though

If he’s coming back, if they want anyone in the stands, it’s an absolute must.

I think he cares enough to do it because he was embarrassed by the year. But if he’s not, you cannot bring him back

If he's back the stands will be empty. Period.

I disagree. Too many people just look at polls and decide. If they’re ranked highly (which would take blowing it up) people will be there. People will boo him, but they’ll be there

It would suck to empty out the place, considering they finally got it filled back up.

I don’t think it would take long to turn the team around with how the portal is, if whoever the coach is uses it right.

I'm not so sure. I think if he makes an effort to retool, and the preseason predictions say we'll have a competitive team... people will be back. People WANT this team to be good and WANT to root for them.

The auto pilot season ticket holders will just burn the tickets rather than watch his crap hockey with players he's completely lost.

💯 the fans want a winner. My desire to attend games consistently diminished every week this season. I will renew my tickets but I would expect if they don’t come out of the gates strong next year, attendance will suffer big time.

agree with this take 100%. And that will be the case regardless of who the coach is.

gopher hockey fan base is dedicated, but pretty fickle in terms of showing up in the rink aside from the group of diehards. Ticket prices are too expensive for many people when they're bad given you can go watch high quality HS hockey, many other nearby college teams (D1, D3), or watch a pretty much always competitive MN Wild team for your hockey fix

For me personally, if they hire a new coach I would give the team more rope next season. Same coach, there will be little to no tolerance for a bad start.

think people who follow it closely, you're spot on. think the usual fair weather people who fill the rest it probably doesn't matter much.

Sounds like Fondrk is a possibility to hit the portal.
