Gopher Hockey Recruiting

on a possible target, Blake Vanek goes in the 3rd at 93 to Ottawa

Mooney in the 4th at 113 to MTL (they were one of the ones I thought may jump up and take him as they have no issue with smaller guys). Really good landing spot for him

After reading the doom and gloom over the past few months that pervades GHR, I was ready to give up my season tickets. Now, I’m excited to see what the incoming freshman can do. Effort, please - first and foremost. 24-25 was severely lacking.

Now, tell me what a naive eejit I am.

Gavin McKenna is about to commit to MSU or PSU so there's that.

Now there is talk of bringing in a Nick Michel type because Motzko doesn't know how to recruit a full roster. What a joke.

But no, there shouldn't be a new Gopher coach this year righting the program.

From Bob's backyard makes it even more pathetic.

It is obvious that you hate Motzko and the state of the Gopher program. Many dead horses have been beaten by you on this subject for 15 years now. Since I'm feeling generous tonight, I will help you out.
1. To help your mental health, just don't watch the Gophers.
2. Subscribe to ESPN+ so you can get your man crush watching BU and Maine.
3. Find a hobby. Maybe start taking walks in the woods or doing crosswords.
4. If these don't appeal to you, start your own website .. GopherHaters.com

Once he "retires" I'll be ready to start spending good money on tickets again. Unfortunately he's going to leave a multi year rebuild behind.

Watch Mooney transfer after a year to go to a contending team and more money.

I totally agree with your comments about Bonin21. The guy is a completed fraud of a fan.

Please Bonin21 do not come back to the Gophers as a fan. For the past years all you have done is rip on the program. Just keep on being a BU, Michigan, and Maine fan.

So you only support the Hockey program when you feel like it. The revenue from the tickets WE fans buy help fund the program and fills the building, and that in turn helps recruit players. So, by not supporting the team, you are ultimately hurting the team you "like" and part of the so called problem that you are blaming on Bob.( lack of NIL money). I support the team with my season tickets, no matter what their record is, (lately it has been pretty darn good), and I also donate to the NIL fund and various other things that help the program. This program has been void of any scandals and have proven to be great in the classroom and the community. Sure, they let the 2023 title game slip away, but the amount of enjoyment I have received from this program since I have become a fan has been immeasurable, and that does not include the numerous amount of friends I have made during those year. So, you have every right to not to support the team, but at least do so during good and bad times and I hope you don't break an ankle jumping on and off the band wagon.
BTW, the fact you are "hoping" that Mooney transfers after this year before he evens plays 1 game for the Gophers truly shows what kind of character you have....

It's strange to me that some "fans" use the moral superiority angle against other "fans" who don't fit their definition of what a fan should look like. We all have limited resources (time and money) as it applies to how we prioritize where we focus our attention. Who cares if someone wants to take a year or two off from being a "fan" because they don't value the product as much as they do at other times. These are life decisions, and we all have to make them. Who cares how other people choose to prioritize the things in their life?

I'm 100% fine if people change priorities and don't care about Gopher Hockey or spend their time and money elsewhere. If that is what they decide to do, then there is no need for them to constantly bitch about every little thing that happens to a program they have moved on from or don't care about. As far as "fans" go, there are all kinds-- Diehard, casual, bandwagon and bitter. I try to be a positive person and when I see someone who is constantly negative, I don't understand why they put so much energy doing that when they could just move on.

I dont know if you are friends of Bonin21 or not. I agree everyone is entitled to their opinion but the problem with Bonin21 is his opinion is always, always always negative. This is the reason he got banned from Gopher Puck Live. He was given multiple warnings about his constant negativity but he just kept going on an on about ripping the program to the point where other posters and moderators got tired of it and he got banned. I get it people can just put him on ignore but for a guy who supposed to be a Gopher fan (which I question) his negaitive takes on the program makes me think he is nothing more than a troll.

I was one of a handful calling for Lucia to be done years before it happened. It was the right call. I supported the Motzko hire for the most part from what I recall. I think it was the right call then too.

I'm telling you, it's time to move on and every year is hurting this program and tacking on another year or even two before they can contend for a title after 20+ years. Everyone will agree once the new regime turns it around, as usual. But I also feel overall with NIL and CHL it may never be the same for Gopher hockey competing every year and that's genuinely sad.

I was also in the camp of replacing Lucia, mainly because he had a few seasons where the Gophers were a 500 team. Winning and losing percentage is usually the reason why a coach gets fired. The current Gopher program is no where near what the program was in the last few years of Lucia. It's obvious you dont like Coach Motzko and the Gopher program but to replace him with a coach like Barr (who you seem to love) who has a 500 winning percentage (same winning percentage as to why Lucia got fired) is crazy.

Not strange at all. Most fans don't care for constant negativity from D-Bags.

You guys are well within your right to be annoyed with Bonin, it does get old. But you also know there is a ignore button, and some people like pinball refuse to use it and I'm starting to get the impression the reason he doesn't is because it gives him an opportunity to nag and nitpick.

You would nag and nitpick Bonin to but you defend him alot.

Bonin has some valid points. And the rest of his takes that I might find annoying, I just ignore and move on.
this. he is a fan. some fans are masochists and negative nellies. some are permanently positive. we all have different ways we approach fandom. Nothing wrong with that. There's a reason why I don't use the gopher sport FB pages or read the Strib comment sections.

Fair point. I do have him on ignore so I don't read his stuff anymore. And yes, there are other "negative nellies" on any forum. But he is, by far and away, the most negative poster I have ever seen. By a long shot. He goes way beyond the flavor if your typical "negative nellie." This forum would be better off without him. Sad thing is, he probably could offer some good commentary and insight (much like you do, upnorthkid). Throw in the fact that he's an arrogant know-it-all who ridicules others here... the juice is just not worth the squeeze.

This x1000. Negativity/pessimism is one thing, but bonin comes off as a guy who has serious psychological issues. I'm not even trying to be mean when I say that, but he is simply different than any other message board poster I have ever seen.

And yes to Crosby's point I could look past some of it but what puts it over the top is that he thinks the reason people are bothered by him is that we are all too stupid to see things like he does.

I've seen lots of Big Ten regular season titles.
I haven't seen a Big Ten tourney title I don't think as I'm pretty sure they were just in Michigan and Notre Dame...
I've seen WCHA regular season titles including the Nate Schmidt goal.
I've seen WCHA Final Five titles including the Wheeler goal.
I've seen Frozen Four semi wins including the 0.6 goal.

At this stage of my fandom, I want titles. Period. I'd trade 50 of the above for one national championship at this point. I was in middle school for the last titles.

I watch a LOT of Gopher hockey and have obsessed over not just the current teams but the recruiting for most of my life. I see what works and what doesn't and the trends over time.

And my opinion, which is just one person's, is that the current staff is not going to bring a title. I've seen enough about how his teams play and the lack of adjustments he's made to both his recruiting and in-game adjustments. Even if he gets a first rounder late from the CHL which I don't think he's going to, it's not enough to close the gap of a very poorly constructed roster. The D as a unit looks absolutely brutal and looks like the late Lucia D corps. The pipeline is thin and weak. He is pulling D3 guys from his new backyard in the Lake Minnetonka area. Rud is not Gopher quality but is on the team because his dad is Motzko's friend. Reid is not Gopher quality but committed because, same thing, played for Motzko's same friend.

I've dumped a lot of money into the program over the years, and I'd say it's fair that I speak with my wallet. I don't think the AD is a total idiot so I'm pretty confident this is the last year of this staff.
