I recently got a promotion but I have to relocate to Chicago. Is there any bar down there considered Gopher bars? What were your experiences there like?

I was down there the other weekend to check out new apartments and saw a lot of Michigan and Michigan State bars with the occasional wisconsin joint.

Any help will be much appreciated.

The "official" bar is The Curse in Wrigleyville: http://www.thecursechicago.com/

I haven't been there for a game so I don't know what the atmosphere is like. You're right, there are a ton of Michigan/MSU/Ohio State/Wisconsin/Iowa bars here though, way more than Minnesota.

Wow, surprised there is only one, but it looks like a cool place.

Yea, it used to be Ivy on Clark. Usually the athletic department and Alumni association have stuff down in Chicago every year. There are a lot of Gopher alums down here of all ages.

The Curse is always a fun time for football games. The drink specials are great and there's usually a good crowd. It thinned out toward the end of last season as the team fell apart but we've had a solid group since I moved here 5 years ago.

I've made several great friends at the game watches.

Minnesota and PSU have the smallest alumni presences in Chicago, thus we each only have one bar. There are Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State and Wisconsin bars EVERYWHERE.

We have fewer bars because our grads can stay in the Twin Cities whereas fans of most of these other schools are moving to the big city from their smaller college towns. PSU kids go to Philly, NYC, or DC.
