There’s a bit of mythology at play here. I have a program from the December 1969 UCLA game and Winfield is rostered on the freshman team. He didn’t play the George (?) Hanson year. Perhaps Musselman had to “rediscover” him.

He played intramurals with the Soulful Strutters. Freshmen were not eligible to play varsity in those days.

He could have helped. We needed practice players and couldn't field ten players on the court in practice.

I think the name comes from a fabulous tune called the Soulful Strut which was popular in the late 60s and early 70s.

Have you seen Lorenson confirmed on the roster some place or just going on he didn't enter the portal? He is not in season stats on ESPN. I thought he got in a couple games...but no? So, did he redshirt?
