I enjoy the general transfer portal thread. Some of the conversation on their regarding the Gophers probably is realistic and some of it is dreaming since it doesn’t account for any competition from any other team. This thread is meant to narrow it down a bit.

Some of these guys may be from MN. I don’t mean that we have to have a roster with all Minnesota players. We just might already have recruiting connections with them or they may want to play closer to home or may be okay with winter weather, etc.

Some of these guys may have connections with coaches or players from previous teams, conferences, etc.

Other players someone noticed may be followed on social media by a coach, post that they’ve been contacted by the Gophers, or are coming for a visit.

Who’s on our short list? Here’s some of mine (edited as we go and because I forget people):

Yes please:
Nasir Whitlock
Nolan Groves

Maybe, if Niko says so:
Kyan Evans
Greyson Uelmen

No:
Daniel Freitag
Isiah Johnson-Arigu

Not Portaling:
Kyle Jorgensen

Analysis: lots of guys who are 6’2’’ (and that’s a lot of the portal, it seems)

With Asuma and I assume Willis back and Tomes coming in they can't look at many guys in the 6'2" and under range. I think they need to focus on the 6'4" to 6'7" range. Positioning matters and unless the guy is an athletic lights out shooter I am not sure it works.

How many of last years transfers were out of the blue?
I suspect some will be out the blue this year too. But it feels silly for us to pull from a list of hundreds or thousands of possible candidates that we want to come here. Sure I'd like an all-conference guy who scored 20ppg and shot 45% from 3, but he's going to get paid by a blue blood. That's what the portal thread feels like to me.

It is if efficiency is your concern. But, if it isn't, then you've investigated a lot of players and some of them might be in play. I'm retired so my time is cheap.

I feel the same way -- I don't really follow basketball outside of the Gophers, and I have no interest in hearing about every one of these thousands of players in the portal.

I like hearing if they are Minnesotans, former Gophers or guys we recruited at one point like Dennis Evans, or even sometimes other B10 teams, or if there is any documented interest from our staff. But it seems a little pointless to just update every single guy in the portal with how massive it's gotten.

Who does that? Most "unknowns" who are posted here are posted because people think they have potential to play and succeed here. Remember that everybody is unknown until one first becomes acquainted with them.

I think what this thread should really transform into is a place for info and links about the guys that actually do transfer/commit here, similar to what they do on GPL.

That thread lists every mid major that enters the portal that scored double digit points. I personally don’t care about any of them until there is a link to the Gophers, whether it’s interest from the coaching staff, a recruiting/zoom visit, or informed speculation from the media. I hope that is what this thread turns into.

In other words, why are people posting things that I don't care about?

I suppose you could start a new thread entitled "Post Only Things That Matt Cares About." Then, you would have the list the things you care about with instructions saying "PLEASE LIMIT DISCUSSIONS TO THESE TOPICS, THANK YOU!"

You may be referring to me, I post a lot of transfers that I come across in the other thread. To say every mid major transfer that scores double digit points is listed is an exaggeration, as I assume you meant it to be. I post mostly about players that were all conference players, players with ties to the B1G, or any other interesting stories I come across.

I have no issues with having a separate thread for Gopher focused news. When I created the other thread, it was never intended to be that.

I have no issue with that thread. I actually really like the idea of having both a big transfer thread and a Gopher centric transfer thread.

What the hell are you talking about? You are the one complaining about this thread. I am simply saying why it is a good idea to have both an all things transfers thread and a gopher centric transfers thread.

I'd switch Evans to the top group. I'm not sure Whitlock is a fit for Niko's offense. I expect them to be heavy after Groves and Iowa/Wisconsin might be the main competition there.

Where did I complain about this thread?

Here's what you wrote that I responded to:

That's not the same thing that you wrote just above:

I am simply saying why it is a good idea to have both an all things transfers thread and a gopher centric transfers thread.

All right. The second statement isn't a bad idea. The first statement just sounds like egocentric silliness.

So, you are interested in Gopher recruiting...I'm assuming you are informed and you have reasons why you have Yes, Maybe and No for guys possibly connected to Minnesota. I think lots of readers like me, only know of these guys from the message board. I'd like to have in one place who these guys are: ...6'2", Wayzata to Army, 1.4ppg in college, Soph to be etc and then your analysis of why you like or don't like them as fits for the team. Their connection to Minnesota etc. That'd be helpful

Yes he has talent, however I am always very wary and reticent to pick up guys who move from school to school. Makes me wonder what's up with him!
Like that Dawson Garcia character? Like him?

And how many times did Dawson transfer? We were the only university he transferred too unlike this clown! He is out shopping for the best deal abd mist money! Yeah he'd be a great teammate! Unhuh! ( tongue firmly in cheek.).He'd bolt and run the first time things got difficult!
