gopher band at half time

Attempting to gouge the Vikings would do the U no favors. The State Constitution gives the U autonomy, but the legislature still controls the funding and can make life difficult for the U. It would not serve the U's interests to anger Vikings fans - also note that Vikings fans and Gophers fans are not two totally separate groups.

The Legislature only controls their contribution to the U. Other operating funds come from grants, licensing agreements, tuition, parking, etc. The money awarded to the U from the state controls a limited portion of the U budget.

Maturi came to the Vikings several years ago and said, "hey, you guys want to split a stadium? We'll make it huge, with tons of amenities, but we'd like it to be on campus."

The powers that be with the Vikes said, "Naw, we want to have the parking revenue from all events, even though the land is the university's and there will clearly be collegiate activities that bring in parking revenue."

"Ok, suit yourself, we'll build a scaled down model then," Maturi said.

The Vikings should have to play at the west bank intramural fields. They had an opportunity to jump on with the Gophers and give both organizations a fantastic facility--- Instead, the pro team got greedy and now they're left standing around with no where to play.

If I'm Maturi, I'm charging Zygi at least eleventy billion dollars to play in my stadium. Oh, and I'm raising parking prices for all those people who don't understand that the Gophers are the state's team... and the Vikings are Zygi's.

Good lord. This is at best a gross generalization but is actually quite inaccurate. The real chance for a shared stadium to work was on the State Fairgrounds and probably should have been done. In any case, your attempt to cast Maturi as some sort of hero (even if the above had happened it would have been little 'Ol Joel making the offer) and Ziggy as the villian is ridiculous.

The Vikings didn't seem to have any ethical dilemmas on gouging the U for 25 years. Payback's a beeyotch. Or as the Klingon's (& Khan) say, "revenge is a dish best served cold."

The Vikings & Zygi should prepare to bend over and grab their ankles. The only say in the matter they should have is whether they prefer it with lube or bareback.

Spare me. I didn't realize the Vikings took over Memorial Stadium and kicked the Gophers out! I can see now why everyone was so upset. The Gophers moving to the Dome may have been a mistake, but it was their mistake and no one else's.

17% would be that number.

Re: the band, even if they wanted the band there, it's the middle of finals week, and the band hasn't rehearsed since the Iowa game.

Mr Maturi is not looked upon favorably by most of us. But I really hope everyone is prepared and willing to give Joel a big thumbs up and pat on the back, just in case this whole Vikings event actually goes fine without any major hangups or embarrassments. It is a great opportunity for him to prove how effective his department can be. And if everything goes fine through Monday, I hope people do ease up on him; I know i will, because he will definitely have proven something to me about his ability to lead the Gopher Athletics Department.

The University Still does

The Gopher athletic department doesn't get parking revenue from the GOPHER GAMES, so I seriously doubt they will somehow be able to get revenue from a non-scheduled NFL game.

The Athletic Department did not bear the cost of building parking ramps or staffing the ramps. The department that requested the bonds, built and staffs the ramp gets the money. When the athletic department builds their own parking facilities, they can get the first hack of the money.

If the light rail line through campus was up and running parking would not be as big of a discussion, because many could use the spaces they have already paid for downtown and take the train.

People complain about it because the U is one of the few major universities that doesn't allocate parking revenue from sporting events to the Athletic Dept. Something tells me they aren't the only campus where the parking services element of the university paid for building the facilities either.

Accounting is as Accounting Does

How do the expenses get paid back to the division that provides them? If they don't; do they included that "In Kind" service as coming from the general fund of the institution in question? Or in places like Michigan and tOSU do the the Athletic departments contribute funds upfront to the building of the parking facilities?

Heck if I know. For both campuses its probably a moot point as very little of their parking is ramp parking and the surface lots in question have likely been in use for a long time. Or in Michigan's case, you're putting a lot of people on the golf course.

How about if, on the first Vikings First down, the PA announcer says "And that's another Golden Gopher... first down!"

Our band sucks now! I dont want other people seeing it. You can never hear them. I can hear away teams bands better and they have about 1/10 the people playing

They are one of the top ten bands in the nation. Drink less and you may hear them. By the way their cumulative GPA is 3.7 ave. What is your's?

I have never actually been to a game but was wondering who usually sits in the section behind the goal post with the PRIDE OF MINNESOTA on the wall above it? Does the band sit there? I would think they wouldn't allow vikings fans to sit there for security reasons so maybe there would be room for the band after all. That is if they would want to do that. They probably would not anyway but just curious.

That is the band seating area. They will be using the band seating area to accommodate ticket holders for the Vikings game.
