gopher band at half time

Halftime will not be anything musical.

It will be honoring the 50 Greatest Vikings.

They have that half-century on not winning a SB celebration

That's part of the reason they wanted the game at MN. Besides, they'll want the bands' seats for paying customers.

The one thing that should be non-negotiable is that our logos stay on the field and the endzone. As I posted in another thread, having the Vikings dude spray painted over the Lion at Ford Field was cheesy and embarrassing (for the Lions).

It may be academic, as I don't know that they can apply that paint in sub-freezing conditions, let alone get all the snow out and dry the field to apply it.

Just saw on the news that they are selling beer at the dome (almost makes me want to be there). I hope that the U is getting a cut of that revenue stream. Considering our negotiator was probably Mongo from Blazing Saddles I doubt it. "Mongo likes candy!"

COrrect me if I am wrong, but I think it was the Lion's idea.

I hope they release all of the terms of the deal. I'm sure Maturi and company were out negotiated on this one....

Our band sucks now! I dont want other people seeing it. You can never hear them. I can hear away teams bands better and they have about 1/10 the people playing

Two Points

The logo's at the U are all permanent, so unless they paint green over them, it's going to be maroon and gold.

The band is not going to play in -25 degree wind chill.

people think the UofM is doing the Vikings a favor by hosting the game at TCF but it's the other way around. The Vikings could have had the game in Indianapolis or somewhere else instead of giving the U national coverage/money/etc.. The people that think it's the other way around have an extra 21st chromosome

You could see through the paint at Ford Field. That means to cover up our logo, they would need a LOT of paint, Maroon is hard to cover over. Let the NFL pay the expenses of getting the stadium ready and getting it rewinterized, and the Vikings can have the revenue directly generated from the stadium. We will get the parking, and of course, sales from Goldy's locker room. Have the PA guy pimp gopher tickets.

Let's see...where do you sit?

If the band can't be there, pump some recorded Gopher band music through the sound system in addition to the usual NFL stuff. One big commercial for the U.

Detoit's logos were washed off from the day before. The cost is $700,000 just to get the place ready and the Vikings and NFL are covering the cost. TCF was only built to manage the November temps, so there is risk in doing so. They are bringing in extra heaters for the concessions and restrooms.

We will get the parking.

The Gopher athletic department doesn't get parking revenue from the GOPHER GAMES, so I seriously doubt they will somehow be able to get revenue from a non-scheduled NFL game.

The Vikings had to refund all but a few hundred tickets to the game last monday @ Detroit. 60,000 tickets @ $60-$80(average ticket price?) =You do the math. Has anyone ever mentioned 'it's all about money'.

Screw off. Sit in front of the band if you want to hear them, or actually get to a game for pregame. It's the University of Minnesota's band, not the viqueen band.

That always irks me. Does anyone have a rough idea how much money is taken in from parking from Gopher sports-FB, BB and Hockey would be a very large sum imo.

In fairness, I believe the contract the U has with the current parking contractor is fairly lucrative for the U. I also believe that the parking company donated a pretty good chunk of money to the TCF Bank Stadium fundraising efforts.

I know some people have complained that the athletics department has taken some money from university funds, but it's all in what column you place the numbers. The parking revenue wouldn't even be there if it wasn't for the sports teams. I had been only thinking of football, but you are right, we need to consider basketball and hockey parking revenue too. And while we are at it, let's consider the non-revenue sports too, those parking fees are not insignigicant either. The athletics department may from time to time require money from university funds, but all that it is the athletics department getting back a small share of the parking revenue that the teams generate.

Some people think that sports costs the U money, but when you remember that the parking fees would not be there without the sports teams, then it is more clear than ever that the athletics department is a money maker. Just the parking from football alone probably makes back more than all the extra money that the AD gets from university funds.

Maturi came to the Vikings several years ago and said, "hey, you guys want to split a stadium? We'll make it huge, with tons of amenities, but we'd like it to be on campus."

The powers that be with the Vikes said, "Naw, we want to have the parking revenue from all events, even though the land is the university's and there will clearly be collegiate activities that bring in parking revenue."

"Ok, suit yourself, we'll build a scaled down model then," Maturi said.

The Vikings should have to play at the west bank intramural fields. They had an opportunity to jump on with the Gophers and give both organizations a fantastic facility--- Instead, the pro team got greedy and now they're left standing around with no where to play.

If I'm Maturi, I'm charging Zygi at least eleventy billion dollars to play in my stadium. Oh, and I'm raising parking prices for all those people who don't understand that the Gophers are the state's team... and the Vikings are Zygi's.

I don't recall it going down quite like that, but even if it did we should be thanking the Vikings for being greedy. Shared stadiums end up sucking for the college team...period. The Vikes demanding their own space is the best thing that could have happened to the U.

Attempting to gouge the Vikings would do the U no favors. The State Constitution gives the U autonomy, but the legislature still controls the funding and can make life difficult for the U. It would not serve the U's interests to anger Vikings fans - also note that Vikings fans and Gophers fans are not two totally separate groups.

+1 I am so glad the we already have our stadium and that it doesn't meet the long-term needs of an NFL team. We already tried sharing a stadium with an NFL team. It just meant that we got little of the revenue. If we had built a shared stadium, it would have been a lot more stadium than we needed. And we would have been tenants in all but name. I'm fine with letting them use it, but not on a permanent basis.

Gouge-No
Fair price-Yes

Agreed.

The Vikings didn't seem to have any ethical dilemmas on gouging the U for 25 years. Payback's a beeyotch. Or as the Klingon's (& Khan) say, "revenge is a dish best served cold."

The Vikings & Zygi should prepare to bend over and grab their ankles. The only say in the matter they should have is whether they prefer it with lube or bareback.

I'm pretty sure they have insurance that will cover most, if not all, of the lost revenue from the Giants game.

A better adage is "don't cut off your nose to spite your face."

The current parking contractor is the UofM.
