Gopher 2026 Volleyball Commitments

Wenaas was getting shit on all over social media for how poorly she played in Texas' last game
It wasn't just that match......fans have been like that about her playing at Texas since she arrived. I just think they are worse whenever a player does poorly....especially, when losing such an important match.

It just doesn't matter what sport you play in and if you are a top player or not. In today's world it appears you are opening yourself up to either a lot of praise and glory or a lot of criticism.

Wenaas did. Booth left after the announcement, right?

From the 12-25-22 Strib
The 6-7 middle blocker told the Wisconsin State Journal that despite Hugh McCutcheon's midseason announcement that he would be stepping down as Gophers coach after the season, she hadn't initially decided to leave until last week, after she returned home to Denver and had a long discussion with her parents.

"It seems fast. It was fast," Booth told the newspaper. "This was literally, I woke up committed to Minnesota and I went to bed that night wanting to enter the transfer portal. A complete coaching change is a really big change. I think I was sort of downplaying it so I wouldn't have to make this decision.
"This is scary. Change is scary. I've been committed to Minnesota for seven years. However, I owed it to myself to explore my options."

I don't know how many coaches a Div 1 team can have, but I know that was talked about elsewhere. Now a few BIG Teams have added a USA Olympian to their coaching staff. Setter Lauren Carlini is Wisconsin's newest coach and their was some question if she was helping coach from the bench during one of their conference matches. It appeared there was talk about too many coaches on the court and she wasn't allowed to coach. However, it looked like she might have been.

Kelly Sheffield is pretty well known, in the rumor mill at least, for viewing the rule book as a collection of "suggestions"

With Eva Hudson and Chloe Chicoine in the portal for Purdue, you have to assume one ends up at Wisconsin and one ends up at Penn State.

Just got done watching the Wisconsin vs Nebraska Regional Championship match.

AT HALF TIME, if you were listening, the on floor Announcer asked JCook to comment on Taylor Landfair leading both teams with kills. His response was something like, "Good because that is what she is GETTING PAID TO DO". Yes....I believe it is a business ran program MINDSET in Nebraska.
I heard the same thing and thought what ? Did he just tell the truth ?? Also, Landfair played an excellent match

Or they might both end up at Wisconsin.

Ugh. I am caring less and less about college sports.

Egan ended up at Wisconsin and Sellman ended up at Penn State from the Ohio State pillaging.

Both programs are corrupt. I want Minnesita to be better but I wouldn't be able to support a program like either of those.

Honestly, I think I'm done with the sport. All college sports. Too bad I still have to pay for them.

I saw a rumor that MB Lourdes Myers (Purdue) who just entered the portal might be heading to Minnesota (boyfriend related). I just saw that Michigan State is changing/firing their head coach which likely means players available.

Bye.

College athletics has always been all about money. Athletes have always been paid. For years it was under the table, kind of. I had an uncle who proudly told me all about the hundred dollar handshakes he and his rich booster buddies gave to athletes. Stories of hotshot recruits from piss poor families showing up on campus with expensive cars are so commonplace its laughable. The only thing that's changed is now its more above board. When the athletic director, football and basketball coaches make more than the college president that's just effed up. The best seats are reserved for big buck donors who don't even show up half the time. If you want to be a fan you just have to hold your nose and, as Ruffda says, cheer for the uniform.

Agreed but volleyball was never like that. And it's still not as bad but they need some restrictions if they expect loyal fans.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the volleyball being played. There were many great matches in the tournament. It has to do with being a loyal fan of a program. Do Badger and Lion fans actually think their teams accomplished something special?

It's like that now and as much as we might like it to it's not going back. So you gotta decide if you can still enjoy the product knowing the players are really "professionals" and that the university only cares about you to extent you can open your wallet for them.

Times have changed. If something isn't done about it soon it will ruin all college sports. I mean college athletes have more freedom than pro athletes now-a-days.

"Fans" are quickly being expected to not only pay for tickets, but also pay for seat licensing (for season tickets), and starting to be asked to pay for the athletes, too (via NIL giving). At some point it's going to break and supporters today are not going to take it anymore.

I have not donated to NIL and not sure I ever will. If I do, it would go to VB and softball.

Did anyone watch the under armor AA game. If so any report on Kinney

And, fans need to subscribe to several streaming services to see their teams and most of the games. The athletic departments and pro teams are putting revenue way ahead of their fan base. Streaming often is not as good as cable or satellite TV.

I missed the UA game. I can't find a story or a box score anywhere either. It's maddening.

They are replaying it on ESPNU tonight. I just set my recorder since it starts during the Gopher bowl game.
