Good Bowl Game & Win OR Win the Axe

They are when there's 11 years between them.

Go get the axe. I have enjoyed going to FLA for a bowl game but it does not compare to beating the disgusting drunks. When we played Missouri the fans were so nice before and after that it took away the intensity of the competition. Ask the Iowa fans if they were happy with their Rose Bowl experience. Many of them were complaining bitterly about the beating they took and how much it cost.

The trifecta would be to regain the axe, to play in a quality bowl and beat a quality opponent, and never have to see another one of these stupid what would you rather have threads. That said, I'm curious if you had to pick one and only one, what would it be:
A. Trump
B. Clinton
C. Colonoscopy

Good Bowl Game & Win OR Win the Axe

With all these folks choosing Axe I say we all make the 4 hour drive to watch it happen. Let's go!

obviously deep down i want to beat the skunks more than anything.

but in regards to recruiting and actual program development: getting to (and winning) a bowl game against a marquee opponent would be much more beneficial than breaking the streak vs wisconsin. recruits would care more about a holiday bowl win over usc or stanford than beating wisconsin in general.

the way we make progress against wisconsin is simple: win enough games before our matchup with them so the battle for the axe consistently is crowning the B1G west winner.

This! Assuming the Gophers make a quality bowl game, that game will be seen by more people than any other game the Gophers will play. A strong performance in a Bowl Game elevates the team's national profile. Recruits will be watching.

Yes, winning the Axe would be great, but if you look at the big picture, a bowl game win can do more good for the program. As others have said, winning both would be ideal, but if I had to choose, I would take a Bowl Game victory 1st. (to be honest, in terms of personal priorities, I would put Iowa above WI in terms of rivalry games. beating Iowa is a higher priority for me than beating Wisconsin.)

A win over becky is the easy choice. The exception would be the Rose Bowl. To us older fans this would be the most important game in the last 40 some years. IMHO.

My question. Is the time now for the Gophers to make a statement? The interest of the state is up for grabs (at least for the remainder of this year). The Vikes are floundering. If we can string together a win vs Purdue and beat Nebraska, I could see the town moving back towards this team. Then, if anything, it parlays increased interest into next year. Just sensing a lot of angst from football fans that had Super Bowl in their eyes and now are doubting making the playoffs (which I still think the Vikes will and that's an overreaction but it's out there). Anyone else have this sense at all?

you arent pitching a damn remember the titans remake dial down the sensationalism dude - our only goal right now should be beating a technical school from west lafayette indiana in football in minneapolis this saturday.

this program isnt going to suddenly jolt to life with one big win (or even a season of them) its gonna take persistence and consistency

What planet are you from?

Minnesota is Vikings country first, good or bad that's where the bulk of the sports eyeballs are and have been since pretty much the last few decades.....

should have been more specific. Not saying the Gophers will be more important than the Vikings, but overall talk, watching, following, the Gophers is down this year secondary to many factors that have been discussed. My question is, does a sequence of wins lead to bringing back some of that hype given the Vikings are struggling? Minnesota will always be Vikes first until the end of time, but right now the gap between the 2 football teams is massive where just a season or two ago it had tightened significantly in my opinion. People cheer for winners and bandwagons get jumped on all the time. That's all I'm asking. My apologies for lack of clarity

only with Kiffin would this happen ;)

But seriously, I am more referring to interest of an increased number of people. As it sits right now, feels like interest in the Gophers has plummeted and moved to the Vikings (new stadium and team thought to be Super Bowl bound after the first 4 weeks). I'm more asking if the gap would become less wide if we binge a series of wins to end the season. Seemed like the hype for the January 1st bowl game was huge and then we lost those fans with last season's disappointment and the opening of US Bank (among a ton of other reasons).

now you're speaking my language haha

totally agree with you on the wins situation, but we need to start going 8-4/9-3 more often because if we are doing that we're in the race for the west crown

Plus the beating from the Stanford band lol

The Axe hands down. It is our most neglected trophy in the last quarter century.

I'm not exactly sure what "neglected" means in this context, but we have won the Axe four times in the last 25 years, and have won the Jug twice in the last 30 years.

Neglected in terms of winning when we were expected to win. We have been expected to beat Wisconsin far more often than we have been expected to beat Michigan.

IMHO, we should have beaten Wisconsin ten times in the last twenty-five years. We should have beaten Michigan six times in the last twenty-five years. Last year being one of them.

I'll take the axe.

Let me axe you a question: Why not want all of it - Beat Whisky, Get the B1G West title, go to a nice bowl and win?

That's not too much to ask for.
