Glen Mason on the Sports Huddle

No...that does not mean that he has financial experience whatsoever. From their own website: "Glen is Senior Vice President of Business Development for Marquette Asset Management. He is responsible for developing and managing client relationships." I would bet that he would be totally flummoxed if he had to sit in front of a Bloomberg terminal or a P/L statement.

His job at Marquette and BTN are perfect for him. He can do both of them part-time without building up much of a sweat.

This is correct. Glen ain't getting too quantitative over there.

I bet you Glen gets very quantitative calculating up things percentage of drives on the fairway, greens in regulation, number of putts, etc. I'm not ragging on him as it's my guess that is what he's being paid to do with clients and prospective clients. Nothing wrong with that.

Color me less concerned about a guy having business/balance sheet experience for the AD job. I want a vision person. You hire the people to give you frank advice about the finances and how to promote, but the vision starts at the top.

It seems to me that after a few years, Glen Mason realizes that he really loved the University of Minnesota. He is currently the most positive media person about Gopher football, and he rarely utters a negative word about the University. I know he was snark and not adored by most MN hs coaches when he was coach, but he seems to be much more personable and happy now.[/QUOTE]

Agree, he is much more upbeat than I ever imagined he would be. Good for him, the world needs more happy people.

Glen does a good job with the T.V. games. When he has the Gopher games he uses "us" and "we" quite a bit. I like it but I'm sure fans of the other team get annoyed.

I actually really like his segments with Barreiro now. It's a little much of a lovefest going on now, which just seems bizarre. But that's Danny B for ya.

I don't think Mason is much of a finance guru, people liek Glen, in his position, is getting paid to go to cocktail parties and dinners.

That said, I would love an AD that is obsessed with football. I doubt Alvarez is a finance guy either.

Glen

He had his shot. In the off season, he was invisible. The ad job has no off season. Lou Nanne would be far better, as he knows that it is all about face time, all the time. Glen had a bad gme and wouldnt face radio callers. We are the little people to Glen Mason.
