so what's the latest on these two? were gray shirts or schollies offered to either?

I keep hearing that Glasgow is a walk on candidate (according to Chris Monter a couple times). The fact that they haven't spelled out exactly if Bjorklund would be offered or not makes me think that he is going to get an offer if our scholarships don't fill up (and then he'll be asked to gray shirt and get a scholarship next season).

Bjorklund was offered a grey shirt. He is deciding between that and a full ride to Toledo (unless something else comes in).

Bjorklund offered u of m grayshirt. Still Talking to mn msu and wi. Waiting for offers (which he would take). If the best he ends up doing is a grayshirt offer it will be real interesting to see what he ends up doing. He really likes Toledo but people are pushing him
To go big 10 if he gets any type of scholarship (incl. Gray shirt)

who are People??

Take it that means Minnesota locals. Remember Watt took a grey-shirt offer from Wisconsin over a full scholarship from Northwestern (of course now he is full scholarship). A grey-shirt offer is still a very good offer, but your clock doesn't start as fast. Hopefully Bjorklund takes the grey-shirt!

I heard Bjorklund took a visit to Northern Illinois, and was only offered a grey shirt by them as well.

I can't say I've heard of this t I haven't really spoken to anyone in the past week and a half or so. I know he has a couple of lower
Level fbs offers. He will not be going Fcs.

Rosemount coaching staff.... Particularly parc Williams. Thinks he can contribute in the big ten at some point

I hope he takes the grey shirt offer, but when you're a young, you can't wait to get out there. Plus all your friends are starting school in the fall or moving on with their lives while you sit their in limbo.

Why would he be in limbo? He just starts school in January. Kill wants to be starting all 4th and 5th year guys anyway. No harm to him at all.

Yea, I guess maybe I am missing something, but is it really even a decision if it comes down to getting a full ride to a sh!t MAC school starting in Sept, or getting a full ride to your home town school which happens to be in the B10, which is probably the best football conference in the country over the last 20 yrs starting in Jan???

I'll be shocked if he would go to that crap school only because he could start school one semester earlier. Some people (his inner circle) need to get in his ear about this.

"A whole year from today!!" you are correct but also understand it is only about 4 months later than when he would start the program if he were offered for the class of 2011. People (coaching staff, friends, family) need to help him put that into perspective, sit tight for 4 months young man and play for your home state!

Sounds like the best deal is for him to stay!! Stay Joe! Stay!!!

That's not the whole story though. He can wait 4 months to go to college and go to a place where he is going to be very low on the depth chart initially or he can go to a place where they want him to contribute right away.

If Bjorklund is confident in his ability (and I hope he is), he shouldn't be worried about the depth chart because all D1 teams are going to have several players to compete against for positions. Bjorklund's film indicates he is a talented player, I think he can play at the D1 level if he has the right mindset and is willing to work for it.

You and many others are oversimplifying the issue. It is easy to say that. But put yourself in his position. He can go to a place where people are head over heels for him and he is no worse than a 2 as a freshman. Or you can go to the u of m… where you weren't recruited until December of your senior year and you are wanted so much that they've asked you to stay off campus for a semester.

I would love to see him as a gopher. To say it's a no brainer is ignorant and simplistic.

Agreed. But sometimes what the kid wants best (to play right away) is not best for him. He would essentially have two years (the grayshirt and a redshirt) to let his body mature, before competing for playing time. I think that gives him a great shot to be a contributor at the Big 10 level.

Besides that, he could potentially end up with a 5 year scholarship, plus summers. You could earn an undergrad+grad degree in that time. I think he would have a much brighter future with a degree from the U of M (and potentially a grad degree), than one from the University of Toledo. Unless he has aspirations of sticking around in Toledo.

Those are just a total outsiders thoughts on the situation (who admittedly has no idea what Joe is thinking/what the two schools have actually said)...and I am sure that it feels better to be wanted and to be a better candidate for playing time. Just saying as nice as that would be, it may not be the best for him in the long run.

The greyshirt option is just a numbers game. In the grand scheme of things, Kill has to honor Brewster's recruits, but I get the feeling he would have prefered someone like Bjorklund.

Greyshirt is far from ideal for someone that loves the game as much as him. But, with it, I think he would have a shot to start as a Freshman or Sophomore. He may not be a Tommy Olson at this point, but with 1.5 years to lift weights, combined with his quickness, attitude, ect, he will be a Big 10 contributor.

You having never met him, probably have less of an idea of what is good for him than say, his family, teachers, friends, ect.

Suggesting that you know it is better for him to go to the u of m is ridiculous. It might be, but you have no idea.
And you admitted this. That's why it willbe interesting to see what happens

...Kill has to honor Brewster's recruits...

No, he doesn't. Some of the recruits that have "changed their minds" have changed their minds after speaking with Kill and the staff and understanding that their needs would be better served at another school.

Sorry...should have worded it "to not come off looking like a d***, Kill wants to honor commitments as much as possible".
Nitpick much?

I readily admitted that I don't know him and his personal situation. I am a teacher, though, and I have seen many people go through these types of decisions. I can say that getting a longer scholarship at a school that unequivocally offers a better educational experience could very well be better for him, but it may not feel that way to him now because he loves the game and wants to play now.

I wish him the best, whatever his decision may be.

He doesn't get a longer scholarship at either place. He will have 5 years to play 4 at either place.

Theoretically, yes. If the advantage of Toledo is that he'll get to play right away, how is that going to equal a 5-year scholarship?

It is all hypothetical. He could get hurt at Toledo. He may get there and they decide to redshirt him. He could play right away in fall 2012 at minnesota. If he played in fall 2012 at Minnesota he'd only get 4.

The chance to play right away is just one of many reasons he might pick Toledo over Minnesota. Others include talking to toledo for over a year and only being recruited by minnesota for 2 months. Familiarity with the coaching staff. Wanting to move "away" for college.
I'm simply pointing out that it's not nearly a no brainer.

That was part of my point (aside from the difference in academics at the two institutions). It sounds like Joe would not be redshirting at Toledo so he would spend four years there, while he could have 5 years of scholarship at the U of M. Not to mention it would allow his body time to mature/gain weight.

Thanks, dpodoll.
