Give me Anthony Grant or Tad Boyle

Give me a break...day 6 and already settling for 2 of the last few names left that Teague and Co. are rumored to be targeting.

Not hurried or worried.

Both of them have unique strengths that the program would benefit from.

Tad > Grant if I had my pick.

Give me a promising unknown over Grant.

I don't think we are that deep in Teague's playbook yet.

I know there are still potentially current head coaches in play and would be happy with someone like Tad Boyle (would be disappointed with Grant though, personally). I would be ecstatic if we got Buzz Williams, but it just seems like such a long shot that I'm not putting too much thought into it. I know some people would be more comfortable with someone who already has head coaching experience, and that's understandable, but I just have a good feeling with Stephens. Many great head coaches start out as assistants. I say take a shot on Stephens if you can't hit a homerun with someone like Buzz.

Damn why all the hate for Grant?

HC since he was in his 30s (only 46), career .678 winning %, plus his squad is going to have their best year yet in 2013-2014 if he doesn't leave Bama.

Plus the dude can flat out recruit.

Yea I mean if Buzz came Dinkytown might riot in excitement, not holding my breath though.

Give me Miles or Enfield. (Assuming Buzz and Marshall are off the board).

That was about the same winning percentage they had this year wasn't it? Didn't get them into the tournament. Comparing coaches winning % is apples and oranges since everyone plays a different schedule.

Grant would not be a bad choice at all. I would rate him right up there with Enfield, if Buzz is out of the picture.

I could live with Grant or Boyle. I fear they hire someone like Stephens. The Big 10 shouldn't be a training ground for new coaches, that's what the mid majors are for. What has Stephens done to earn a Big 10 job anyways? He's been an assistant for 10 years now, if he was that great a get someone would have hired him by now. I don't want to hear what a great recruiter he is either, he's been recruiting players to play for Tom Izzo not for himself, recruiting guys to play for himself is a whole different ballgame and I don't see what his selling points would be.

Very true.

His team's defensive stats are pretty legit though, scoring could be a lot better admittedly.

This is credited.

Grant has definitely showed he can lock down great talent.

Think it's going to be one of the Michigan State assistants either Stephens or Fife.

It's that sucky offense. I want a coach who can coach circles around the opposing coach, not just recruit. No matter how great a recruiter you are, you're going to run into a team with better players. Then it's going to be, can you prepare your team to outwit the other team?

Offense needs work no doubt.

My only red flag with Grant (and it's a big one) is that I've seen a lot of "scouting reports" saying that his teams run a plodding, inefficient offense. That screams Tubby Smith to me, and it's one of the big reasons I thought it was time to move on. Wouldn't hate the hire, though.

My newly-revised list, along with the percentage-chance of hiring:
1. Buzz 10%...Good team, good money, good conference. Unlikely, he'd jump ship.
2. Miles 25%...Just finished his first year at Nebraska. Hard to envision him leaving already.
3. Boyle 25% ...He's already coaching close to his home.
4. Endfield 50%...USC is after him. He may see that as the better option.
5. Grant 60%...I think the odds could be even better than that. But I'm not sure he's a good fit here. Mack could be a good fit, but I noticed that he's an Ohio native and Xavier grad. I can't see him leaving there.

I believe these guys can coach, recruit and sell the program. Unfortunately,

Want neither Grant or Boyle. A top assistant is the direction I think we should go unless we can get Williams or Endfield

I think it's a legit concern, but Stevens runs a slow offense. Not all slow offenses are created equal.
