Where do the teams stand entering Week 5 of the season?

Our own Noel Thompson gives us his Big Ten Power Rankings.


1. Ohio State (3-0)
Last Week's Result: Idle

The Buckeyes had a week to prepare before they head out west to take on Washington to start conference play.

2. Penn State (3-0)
Last Week's Result: Idle
Last Week's Ranking: #2

The Nittany Lions' first Big Ten game will be a Top 10 matchup with the Oregon Ducks, who come into town this weekend.

3. Oregon (4-0,1-0)
Last Week's Result: Oregon 41, Oregon State 7
Last Week's Ranking: #3

Ducks QB Dante Moore threw 305 yards and tossed four touchdowns to knock off in-state rival Oregon State.

4. USC (4-0,1-0)
Last Week's Result: USC 45, Michigan State 31
Last Week's Ranking: #5

The Trojans' offense had over 500 yards as they started their Big Ten play with a victory over Michigan State.

5. Indiana (4-0,1-0)
Last Week's Result: Indiana 63, Illinois 10
Last Week's Ranking: #6

The Hoosiers scored 35 points in the first half in a dominating victory over No. 9 Illinois.

6. Michigan (3-1, 1-0)
Last Week's Result: Michigan 30, Nebraska 27

The Wolverines' run game is too much for the Huskers as they pound the rock for 290 yards in Lincoln.

7. Illinois (3-1, 1-0)

The Illini had 161 total yards against Indiana; they will now host a red-hot USC team this weekend.

8. Iowa (3-1,1-0)

With the game tied entering the fourth quarter, the Hawkeyes pulled away in the fourth quarter over Rutgers to start Big Ten play with a victory.

9. Washington (3-0)

Washington QB Demond Williams Jr. tossed four touchdown passes and ran for a score to win the Apple Cup over Washington State

10. Nebraska (3-1,0-1)
Last Week's Result: Nebraska 27, Michigan 30

With the loss against Michigan, the Huskers lost their sixth straight Big Ten opener and 28th consecutive game against a Top 25 opponent.

11. Maryland (4-0, 1-0)

The Terrapins walked into Madison as 10-point underdogs and came away with a convincing 17-point victory. Maryland freshman QB Malik Washington looks promising.

12. Michigan State (3-1,0-1)

Michigan State's QB Aidan Chiles accounted for 243 of the Spartans' 333 total yards against USC. They will have an extra week to prepare before traveling to Lincoln.

13. Minnesota (2-1)

After a tough loss at Cal, the Gophers had an extra week to prepare for their Big Ten opener against Rutgers.

14. Rutgers (3-1,0-1)
Last Week's Result: Rutgers 28, Iowa 38

The Scarlet Knights' offense started great, but fizzled in the second half as the Hawkeye defense settled in. Rutgers will look to rebound as it travels to Minneapolis this week.

15. Purdue (2-2, 0-1)

The Boilermakers have now lost to the Irish 10 consecutive times. Purdue will have an extra week before Illinois comes into town on October 4th.

16. Wisconsin (2-2, 0-1)
Last Week's Result: Wisconsin 10, Maryland 27

The Badgers headed into the locker room at halftime down 20-0 to Maryland, and the student section called for Luke Fickell to get fired. The schedule doesn't get any easier for Wisconsin as its next four games are against Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, and Oregon.

17. Northwestern (1-2,0-1)

The Wildcats are six-point favorites this weekend when UCLA comes into town.

18. UCLA (0-3)

The DeShaun Foster era is over at UCLA after a 0-3 start. Tim Skipper has been named interim head coach as the Bruins look for their first win this season against Northwestern.
