Georgia Tech QB Zach Pyron Transfers to Minnesota

Redshirt Soph with 2 to play. Jackets backup QB. Played the whole game against Notre Dame this year and did okay in a loss. Had some action against quality ACC teams as a freshman.

Looks like a guy to compete to start but not expected to.

Someone who follows Georgia Tech please tell us why we should be excited. I look at his stats on ESPN and it doesn't shout "Wow!"

Grad transfer.... AK-like stats as a backup...
Guessing just a depth piece.

If this is the only guy that they bring in, they must be planning on Lindsey being the starter.

Edit: probably also means they don't see Wittke as a viable backup.

Looks like Sam Darnold with a mustache. Coincidence? I think not.

I second your analysis. All signs point to Lindsey being "good". And Zach fills the all about "the fit" part.

stats this season:
passing 35 of 65 - 409 yds - 2 TD - 3 INT
rushing 36 att - 115 yds - 4 TD

vs Notre Dame this season - 20 of 36 passing - 269 yds - 1 TD - 2 INT / rushing 13 att - 45 yds

for his career completing 56.8% of passes

in other words - injury insurance. Lindsey is the starter, and Pyron plays if Lindsey is injured.

Sorry to tell you this, but it's an open competition. Lindsay has been here so he has a leg up but Pyron will have a chance to win the starting job. Not like Pyron had a boatload of experience to determine things. He'll be given the opportunity to win the starting job and show he's improved. That's a pretty good game against a good school in ND for what its worth.

I don't get it. Go get another Max-type starter kid who's thrown 500 plus passes. This seems like a so-so use of a scholarship.

I'd assume those types of guys want reassurance that they're the starter, like we gave to Max. We're not going to give that assurance this year with Lindsay on the roster and we don't have the money to pay for that expensive of an NIL deal for an insurance policy. This is what we're gonna have to work with and hope, if we need him, he's improved and looks goodl

pretty sure a lot of people were dogging on Max right away (and especially after the first game), because he was from the FCS but proved everyone wrong.

Maybe this kid can do the same.

I still can't tell if guys are wearing that kind of mustache to be funny or if they think it is actually a good look?

Drake Lindsey will be the starter next year. Nothing wrong with that.

Guessing with the limited NIL relative to other programs and what they have to pay now to keep Koi that they can’t afford a sure-fire starter

We have a coach in PJ who continues to learn and get better. He knows that he has a good QB in Drake, but also knows he can't afford to trust someone as much as he did AK. When AK faultered there was no viable back up and we were stuck. A really good team made to look average by bad QB play. This is a great value add. Keeps everyone happy, makes the QB room better and doesn't cost a ton of NIL to make it happen.

I don't know that he was still the backup QB. By the end of the year, Tech used a 2 QB system and was playing both Haynes King, and former Gopher commit, Aaron Philo
