at one time. We just really need to find the right fit for Minnesota.

The other thing to keep in mind was that Pinkel was about to be run out of town in year 5 or 6. Then, he and his staff went to a TX high school to learn the spread and installed it for TX QB Chase Daniel. They had some very good teams with him and have been able to recruit much better. The result, they beat #1 OU tonight in Columbia. Even in the Daniel era, they would have been whipped. However, those recruiting classes are taking affect. My point, the right hire and patience.

They were a spread team prior to Chase Daniel. Brad Smith was an unbelievable spread QB for Pinkel. Pinkel was about to get run out town because he treated people like crap and wasn't winning enough. Then, Chase Daniel showed up, they won some big games, were on the verge of a BCS appearance, and he got a contract extension. It is all about winning.

Pinkel's teams have been exactly as good as his quarterbacks.

He's had two outstanding quarterbacks. He's had the same number of outstanding years.

The quarterback is the guy who gets the ball every play.

So were Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Brian Kelly, Terry Hoeppner, Randy Walker, Glen Mason, and Jim Grobe.

That is the only time Mase should be in the same sentence as Saban (Yuck) and Meyer.

At one time Miami of Ohio was known as the "Cradle of Coaches." Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian and Bo Schembechler were plucked from the MAC school for the Big 10.

It'd be great to find a coach of their status.

Go Gophers!!

Smith ran a more run/throw offense. They went down to TX and implemented the exact same pass-happy offense that Daniel ran in High School. Great point on Pinkel changing his attitude, which did help. In fact, compare Pinkel and Mangino; they both caught lightning in a bottle with Daniel and Reesing. However, only Pinkel was only able to use it to build what looks like a consistent Top 25 team. Mangino's attitude got him run out of town.
