Gameplan

Does anyone remember some of the kids talking after the Nebraska game last year? they were inspired by the FUN they had. they started moving around and trying to confuse the Defense with motions? and it worked.

is there something up Limey's sleeve? if there is and he pulls this game out I will never doubt him again!

I think there is more than what we are seeing and it could come out this weekend

Limey and Kill HAVE to realize that we can't pound the ball consistently against a strong BT run D. How many times have we failed? Limey kicked himself in the butt for being so stubborn after the Iowa debacle last year. Did he learn from that?

We can run lots of different plays that posters are calling for but the guys must execute them properly, otherwise it won't mean diddly. Of course, this is always the case no matter which play it is.

Wisconsin couldn't get melvin Gordon going against Western Illinois. We will struggle if we can't make the connections through the air tomorrow. Michigan has an above average defense, possibly the best we will see this year (dont tell the TCU fans) and it will be tough sledding if we try to power through them.

As in the Iowa, MSU, WI, TCU games we didn't fail because we tried to throw, we failed because of horrible offensive team execution and some defensive breakdowns vs Michigan.

I'm hoping for a low scoring affair and that our defense shows up. This is their time to shine on national tv. Get turnovers, hit the michigan qb early and often. On offense, hit some key passes and we could be rolling to a big upset.

It's "Dumb and Dumber To"; have some respect, man.

Sorry about that. That is certainly not the movie that you want to get the title wrong. I have to admit that I did laugh at the original while watching it. Especially when they arrived in Aspen on and were frozen together. Confession is good for the soul.

We've seen the coaches execute the diverse offense, that we saw in the Nebraska game. So, I find it impossible, that they just forgot how to call those plays. So the reasonable assumption is they have deliberately been showing the bare minimum, on film, they have had to.

Dangerous assumption. Could be they didn't feel they had the personnel they could trust to run such plays. And if they didn't have them the past 4 weeks...

I liked the no huddle we ran at the end of the first half against SJSU. I wouldn't mind to see that thrown in once in awhile against any opponent.

Obviously the downside to going no-huddle is if it doesn't work it leads to a really quick 3 and out. I am all for trying it though from time to time as a way to get the defense uncomfortable.

Our QB play is unacceptable and I'm not absolving Limegrover and Kill of any blame, but do people really think our struggles are because our coaches have killed the confidence of our QBs? Really?

Our QB play has been dreadful. An ideal situation is to have an offense where you can run, suck the defenders up into the box and throw against a defense that isn't keyed to the pass. We have set that up with our running game. Mitch simply has not been able to make the plays this year.

We have a kid who keeps falling on training wheels, it isn't the time to take them off.

If our QBs don't have confidence because we are a run first team, they won't ever be successful QBs. Kill made Nelson a true FR starter, he handed over the offense this year to Mitch (talked him up the entire time). If these guys struggled because they STILL lacked confidence, that seems to be a personal issue.

If we had any success passing the ball, we'd pass more. I hope the offense "opens up", but that can only happen if we can execute the simple stuff in the passing game. So far, we haven't been able to.

Passing Game

Bob, the wide receivers have sucked also, meaning they can't catch for ****! But, I do agree that the QB play has been horrible although I thought Streveler played very well with what they let him do against San Jose State.

Muck Fichigan! Ann Arbor is a Whore!

I'm more interested in watching this game than any during the Kill era. We're playing a beatable Michigan team at their Big House on National TV on a Fall day that is supposed to have a high of 77 degrees with no chance of rain. It's what we wait for all year. Claeys is going to come out with a solid gameplan and we'll need it because if what is causing Gardner most of his problems is between his ears, it's likely he's going to feel better about himself this week since he's killed us twice now. He'll likely play a lot better than he has, but our D should be able to compete well and keep us in the game. That brings it down to Kill and Limegrover and what they have ready to go on offense. We have obvious concerns at QB. We have a stout run D that we're going to face. Was Nebraska last year a mirage, or can our O coaching staff rise to the occassion more consistently now and put together a plan that will enable us to win a big game even if we're maybe not able to run the ball between the tackles as well as Kill would like to? I'm skeptical, but Saturday is the day when we might just find out what we have to look forward to in the Kill era. Is he going to open things up even in the face of adversity, or is he going to always play it safe and hope for a few breaks, our D and special teams to carry the day? To me, the latter won't beat quality B1G teams. We play hard, we have good kids; we need to lay it all on the line and open things up and be creative and leave everything on the field; including whatever we have in the playbook that could keep Michigan off balance. For the love of God let's see 5-6 jet sweeps to Jones or Edwards, 3-4 screens to Cobb and 4-5 bubble screen to Edwards/Jones, et al. Maybe even surprise us with a couple of plays none of us are even expecting or calling for. I think a stubborn adherence to the "play it safe" strategy dooms us in big games most of the time. If Kill wants to muddle around with 6, 7 or 8 wins a year, keep his job and put money in his and his assistants pockets for the next three or four years he can probably do that playing offense that he's comfortable with. If he wants to start this Saturday with taking us to the next level, he's going to have to work with Limegrover to loosen things up and take some chances and put his faith in his fellas (yes even Streveler and Leidner; I think we have sucked the confidence out of our QBs the past three years) and let them play some semblance of modern day football, we might just be rewarded with a big win this weekend that could get us over the hump.

I'm right there with ya. Feel like this is proving game for Limegrover. He needs to go if we pull a last years Iowa game.

I kinda like whores. I don't like Ann Arbor.

I get all confused when people call Ann Arbor a slut. I love sluts. Sluts are great. Sluts make the world go around. If not for sluts, we might as well be living in some Taliban stronghold with no music, no laughter, no smiles. Sluts are central to happiness. Find a good one and marry her.

Here's the thing though if anyone truly thinks that Limegrover should be fired then they also have to be on board with Kill getting fired because there is no chance Kill fires Limegrover or Claeys. I honestly believe the Kill would step down before being forced to fire either of those guys.

Nice write up Indi. The GOphers need to exorcise the passing/receiving demons that plague the JK era.

There must be a perception around the league that to stop the Gophers, you stuff the run.

The body language of our receivers don't appear have that "it" factor. How can they when most of them are either pass blockers or decoys most of the time in this run oriented offense.

Will we see more dynamic game plan for the Gophers that have more creative game schemes tailored to each opponent? Time will tell.
