Since you all were very helpful to the Cal folks a couple weeks ago, but I don't want to re-read that whole thread, I have a few questions for you TCF 'veterans':

1. We're staying at Hilton Garden Inn downtown, and not renting a car. What will be the least painful way to get to the stadium? Metro transit? Cab? The hotel has no shuttle.

2. What's the best use of pre-game time since we can't tailgate? Just best to spend it checking out the stadium? What time is the victory walk again?

3. I need suggestions on where to take my 60'ish parents to dinner in dowtown. Somewhere nice but not shockingly expensive. Previous Gopher games/other events have always been get in, go to the game and get out of the Metro, so none of us are that familiar with downtown resteraunts.

Thanks.

Definitely hit McNamara center. You'll be at the right place for the vicotry walk as well.

If you want to arrive early to campus to make sure you're there in time for all the festivities it's not so bad to go to Campus Pizza and have a beverage or more while you wait, you'll be surrounded by nice gopher nostaligia collected through the years.

most importantly, are you a badger or gopher fan? that will be crucial to know before giving u any help!

It won't be too bad to take transit to the stadium. You can take the light rail, and transfer to a bus. I went to www.metrotransit.org, and looked up a route that will get you to the stadium by 9 am. It has you take the light rail to downtown to the Warehouse Transit Station, then transfer to the 6U bus which will take you to the stadium.

Another option would be to take the light rail to downtown, and then take a taxi the rest of the way to the stadium.

Given your parent's age, I'd recommend Murray's for dinner. Your folks might be a little younger than the typical clientele there, but the food is good. You might see Sid Hartman there.

Take a taxi to the game. Get out a couple of blocks before the stadium so you can walk through campus.

The victory walk is at 9am. I've just missed it the last two game buts I'll for sure make it tomorrow. That in and of itself should be a good show.

Never thought I'd say this but I concur with Troy McClure, Murray's is a good downtown spot for what you're looking for.

If he's not a Gopher fan, he's spent an awful lot of time on the board to get his post count up to 619! Lol!

ya, some Fadgers have pretty high posts as well so you never know!

Hey lady ...........

Hey lady .........
Was thinking the same thing myself - 619 posts and he's not a 'gopher fan'? WTH

Lady - ever read any of your emails??????

Howeda isn't a Badger. He has been an active participant on the basketball board, keeping us appraised of the Cavalier attitude of Virginians amongst whom he lives during their courtship of Tubby Smith a few months back. He's one of us.

Howie, you don't say who needs to be comfortable and how that is defined. I'm 60-ish like your parents. If it were me, and the weather is OK, I'd walk the seven or so blocks along 4th Avenue to 4th Street and get a #16 or #50 bus there (heading left to right). There's no need to transfer from that. It will bring you in to Campus along Washington Ave., past Coffman Union. If you get off at Oak and Washington you'll be next to the activities in McNamara Plaza.

If weather is an issue, a cab might be a better bet.

I agree with ofergopher. I live downtown and I usally walk to campus and it takes me about 40 minutes, but I took the bus to and back from the Cal game. 4th and 4th is a great location to get the bus going to the U. Coming back it can be a bit crowded depending what time you leave campus. I love Murrays and the garlic toast, but you're talking over a hundred bucks for three people and closer to one fifty or more. Something on Nicolett Mall would be cheaper such as Rock Bottom Brewery, but wherever you go MAKE RESERVATIONS or you will never get in, downtown will be hectic this weekend.

McNamera is a great "tailgate" option for those of us who don't have a tailgate spot. Beer, wine, and food... in a sea of maroon and gold. And as previously mentioned... great place to catch the victory walk (it starts from there).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Rest assured I am a Gopher fan. I'm coming with a friend who's a Gator but he already agreed to where gold so it will be OK. I was thinking Murray's too, but don't really want to hear my dad talk about how much it was for the next 5 times I see him even if I pay. Rock Bottom is good, I've been to the one there and others before. It might be a safer bet.

Now off to get on my flight. Not much slack if there are issues so wish me luck.
