Game #5: Gophers (4-0) v. Wofford (1-2) [BTN 6:00PM]

I think I see Bobby Jackson sitting behind the goph bench.

Looking good in general so far. Though a few miscues. The inbound plays as mentioned by the announcers, having trouble defending those. And Ellenson looks really bad.

I like the shooting so far, mostly good shot choices. When Ellison isn't in there, we have major rebounding issues. But when in he looks great.

Nice shot by Andre Hollins to end the half. 50-24 at half.

Buggs is looking good too.

Buggs was putting in the effort. He seems hungry, but I couldn't help to notice that his conditioning may be a root of concern for Pitino. He looked a bit tired running the court especially when he was moving around in the zone defense.

Wally will be a good player, he just needs more game experience. One positive about Mo, and now Joey, being out is that it will give Buggs and Wally some experience.

Convinced the Aria sportsbook to put the game on even though they didn't take bets on it. Our D is looking good, lots of deflections.

Lapses in concentration in the half court on D gave Wofford some easy looks they luckily missed...teams in the B1G won't miss those shots so gotta pick it up there. Other then that you gotta love what you saw. Pitino's system is a lot of fun to watch.

Oto looks like a new guy. I think the coaching change has helped him more than any other player.

Florida St. is on ESPNU right now, they're up 16-14 over #10 VCU in the first half.

It's the tanning booth! I am telling you. Spray on tan is performance enhancing.

Sorry, I just don't see it happening.

Elliot with 7 blocks early in the second half. That's great to see.

Elliot looks really great. I hope he gets big minutes over Mo when he comes back. I don't Wally will be great. He just doesn't seem to be mentally in the game. Lots of mistakes.

I just can't get over the name Indiana Faithfull. I mean, come on.

I love watching Mathieu play. I thought it when I attended the home opener, and watching him now from home, I am even more impressed. Love the way he plays.

I think Wally will eventually see the writing on the wall that his future is Track and Field. I expect after the season that Wally will sit down and realize that basketball isn't in the cards and will concentrate on track full time and will be moved to a track scholarship freeing up another scholarship. I just don't see him playing a whole lot once big ten season starts. He doesn't really have an offensive identity. I think he got away with being such a great athlete in high school and can't at this level.

I really agree with this last part.

Wally will play in conference play, we aren't deep enough for him not to play. I think he's going to get better with experience, he's essentially a freshman. Gotta love all the people that declare a kid's career is over after less than 10 games in to their career.

I would have to disagree with part of this. A lot of people on this forum write about how we don't have the athletes to press for a full game. Well... Wally is the best athlete on his team. I do agree that he does not have an offensive identity but did Rodney ever really have one until his Jr. year? Wally still has plenty of time to develop and that would certenly help if he is on the team once his brother's recruitment comes around.

+1

He is the true point guard we've always needed!

Good lawd almighty...after 14 games played you figured all this out. You should call Coach P and let him know you are available. I am sure he will fire someone to take you on.

This is the first game I've seen the Gophers play this year and I agree. I am very impressed by Mathieu. Love the way this team plays with more confidence and they will be a lot of fun to watch through the year. The Syracuse game will be a good measuring stick of how good this team can be this year.

With Title IX it's very rare for track and field athletes to get full rides, a lot of them get half rides, or even quarter rides. Wally's elite so his case maybe different, but if he's good enough to play hoops he should stay, helps us with Henry as well.

The problem with both Wally and Rodney is that in high school both probably played the four. Rodney was completely lost when he played the three in college and wasn't until Trevor's injury where they started playing him at the four where he started to look more comfortable. I think the same thing is happening with Wally. He played around the basket in high school and is now being asked to play more on the perimeter at the 3 with occasional time at the 4 which isn't the strength of his game. Will he get better? Probably! Most players do as is evidence with Eliason. Will he be around long enough to experience it. I think probably not. The kid has a chance to go to the Olympics in the high jump. You need to be more than a part-time athlete if you want that chance. That's why eventually Wally will switch to Track so he can train properly year round.
