Game 11: Gophers visit Nebraska (12-8-24)

They were never competitive in this game. Concerning lack of D , rebounding n missing lay ups. As stated earlier 3 point shooting can come n go which is why U have 2 excel at the fundamentals. Time to practice hard and regroup.

I was only able to follow on Live Stats, but it seems the only positives today were; Only 4 turnovers and Rose seemed to be offensively efficient off the bench (numbers-wise at least). Everything else? Best to just slam the door on this one and get ready for the next.

I think Mc Kinney was a bright spot, she didn’t seem to overwhelm by herfirst Big Ten start. Very disappointed in level of play with the other starters, beginning to think they over rated. This loss pisses me off, program seems stuck in neutral

Ugly box score for what was a close spread
Bright spots, Rose has some game, McKinney will be a star in this league on Both sides of the ball and Battle would have to try to play this bad again!

Nebraska was hotter shooting team. Gophers couldn't get things to fall early and often and it makes it tough playing a top 25 team on the road in the Big 10. Anytime a team shoots 42.9% of their 3s and 51.7% for the field overall, they are going to be tough to beat. For most part we played ok D and got steals, they just made shots and sometimes need to tip the cap to them. Hopefully be a good learning lesson and be ready for the rest of the tough big 10 season after Christmas. The next 4 big 10 games are almost must wins if we want to get to the tournament.

Coach P has couple other non conference games to sure up some things. I would like to see Coach P get more of the bench comfortable to play within the rotation more early and often. Example if GG, Heyer, Battle struggle shooting right away. Johnson should be ready to come in for 5 minutes or so and still be able to take the same shots. She is a shooter. Think Czinano and Holloway can help Heyer, Hart, and Stewart at times when they struggle.

In the post game Plitzuweit said we need to get tougher and play with an edge. I'd rather see ball movement and spacing so I'm watching Illinois at Ohio State to get out of my funk.

Gophers scored more points then

Rutgers, Michigan, Northwestern and one less then Wisconsin..

keep Nebraska's 2 best players to 14 total points..

two of their bench players who didn't score a single point in their last game combined for 22 points..

if you told me we were to hold Alexis to 11points, had you told me that before the game even started.. I would have taken that 100%..

Borderline tournament team that will probably lose right away.

But that's progress and the first step if they can achieve it.

You won't have much tournament success without WNBA talent, and this team has no WNBA prospects anywhere on the roster.

Don't take this as dumping on the team. It's simply an honest assessment of what they can hope for this year.

Step back from the ledge people. It’s the opening game of the B1G schedule. They didn’t shoot the ball well and the defense was so so. If we continue to see this in upcoming games then you can step back to the ledge. Really good teams have poor nights as well, how do we rebound from a poor performance will be a better indication of where we are at.

I thought they actually moved the ball for the most part better than they ever have and even played with some pace. Played solid D with many steals, had offensive rebounds, not many turnovers. Just simply had hard time finishing and shooting and Nebraska was making a lot of their shots and didn't let up much.

PG went 1 for 15. At some point probably look to distribute the ball versus taking more shots.
Distribute to exactly who? In the first quarter, I'm guessing she was passing to teammates, took exactly 2 shots and by then, it was apparent that nobody was hitting shots. We know that Battle has shown the ability to get and make her shot. I imagine that Coach Dawn may have sent her back in the game late in the first with instructions to maybe start looking for her shot more. 2 shots in a quarter, one of them a lay-up, I feel shows pretty good restraint.

Now, since I wasn't actually able to watch, (Live Stats p-by-p only) I can't attest to whether she was taking good shots, average shots or taking bad shots at the expense of open teammates. Hindsight is easy, but with all the missed bunnies from everybody else, it seems more a matter of who would you prefer miss a bunch of shots.

For the most part, I thought her shots were good shots they just weren’t falling.

I also think that is the first game where they missed Mara. I think she would have provided more spacing etc... As a previous poster mentioned, they got good looks. Some times the ball does not go in. As coach P continues to bring in her recruits and shooters I am confident this program is going to be successful. It just takes time.

Speaking of Braun has anyone seen any updates? I know they were not going to announce just yet if she will be back or taking a redshirt, but wondered if anyone has the inside scoop?

So many posters on here were simply waiting for a bad game to once again bitch and moan about the non-conference schedule.

Reminder: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WATCH THIS TEAM!

secondly, one bad game. Now they know what to prepare for and work on for the next couple of weeks and get ready for Dec 28th. If they go 0-7, 0-8 then maybe start calling classes failures or complain about coaching.

Also..now we calling 2022s failures? Where are we right now and the last three seasons without them? get a grip.

In terms of Mara. Surgery was successful and occurred during the week of the trip to Louisiana. Same injury and the same surgery as last year that had a 4-6 week window of healing. Last year she returned to WNIT 5 1/2 weeks post-surgery. Discussions with coaches, IF she comes back I would strongly expect 8-9 weeks post-surgery as the earliest she could be back. That looking at the third or fourth week of January.

We are running out of cupcakes.

Sorry, didn't realize you had to be a cheerleader to follow this team.

Thank you for the update on Mara. Glad it was successful.
