Gaelin Elmore moved to DE

Highlight for me: "To be honest we probably lucky in the long run we didn't get the kid. Sounds like the reason Wisconsin didn't offer because he is not a good lockerroom fit. Take that whatever way you want, but it does say something."

I heard the same thing. The Badgers didn't want him because he wasn't a drunken a$$hole. Bad fit with the rest of the team.

You did notice the multiple posts in this thread comparing RH & GE before posting this insightful response, right?

I did, and I made a point that I hope he's more TC than RH. I was wondering in posting weights if he was taking a position on which way Elmore will develop.

Yes, i was implying that he is much more similar to Ra’Shede than Theiren and now that Gaelin has said he is up to 270 that becomes even more true since Ra’Shede was 272 as a true freshman while TC has had 4 years with Klein yet is only 255.

Interesting that Elmore is switching to DE and will play this year:

That is quite interesting. I'm also surprised Stelter and Lingen won't be redshirted.

Coaches can certainly bulk Gaelin up and put him inside. But I think they did that with shede because his lack of speed and quickness didn't fit end. They can keep Elmore around 270-280 if they want, if he can be a good DE and I think and hope they do. Well see.

Ohio State too

when Gaelin was at his Ohio State visit, he worked out with the offensive coaches for a couple of hours and then when he was done and walking to the car the D-coordinator called him back in and asked if he would work out with him for a while. After another hour workout the coach said that if he comes to Ohio State it would be as a D-end for sure.

He is ok with the move and looking forward to helping the team anyway he can. Hopefully this gets him on the field quicker and more often.

The lockerroom fit statement is bizarre to me. He is smart, well spoken and thinks about things a little deeper and on a different level than most young people, but developed into a good leader and teammate.

I'm either way on the situation. If Elmore can rush the passer at 280 lbs from the DE position, that would be quite the advantage for our DL. He'd have fantastic size for the position.

That said, I think coaches look at switching between DE/DT differently. For Shede, he was moved because he is one of those freak athletes who can be an athletic marvel at 300+ pounds. That's rare, much rarer than a good DE. There are considerably more people in the world who can be athletic at 250/260 lbs than people who can be athletic at 300+ pounds. If a guy is capable of being athletic at that weight, I think you move him inside and recruit another DE.
