Here are a few volleyball recruits to keep your eyes on over the next few years.

Karlie Hauer, 5-10 OH: Andover HS will join the Gophers this fall. Very raw and has only been playing competitively for a few years but clearly has great potential.

Lindsey Lawmaster, 5-5 Libero: Los Alamitos, CA. The next in the long line of quality liberos? Hard to say.

2013
Ciara Capezio, 6-3 OH: Burlington HS from Williams Bay, WI committed to the Gophers last March. Here is an article from her local paper. http://www.lakegenevanews.net/Artic...5-Volleyball-phenom-commits-to-Minnesota.html

Her YouTube footage looks raw but she can bring some power. With a little polish, she could be a nice addition in 2013. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5_UC1lFFrk

She is one of 5 players in running for WI Gatorade POY as a Jr.

Katie Schau 5-9 S: Gull Lake, Michigan
Hannah Tapp 6-2 OH/MB: Stewartville
Paige Tapp 6-1 OPP/MB: Stewartville

2014
Taylr McNeil, 6-1 OH: Eagan HS has been committed to the Gophers for 18 mths. Sister is current Gopher, Kellie. Selected as Pioneer Press POY and she is one of 4 favorites for MN Gatorade POY as a sophomore. Supposedly can touch 10 ft so has some leaping abilities.

I've updated the list and will look for more info to add about the Tapp Twins. I forgot about Katie Schau from Michigan as well. She is a setter but I don't know much about her.

What's going on with Sooter? Why transfer now? Isn't libero hers to lose?

Are the Tapp twins highly recruited or are they fillers until the new coach comes in and starts his recruiting cycle? We definitely are not recruiting at a high level at all recently in comparison with the other top programs in the country largely due to the fact that we have an associate head coach on board right now. Not even close.

I know that Penn State coaches went to Rochester to watch them in a tournament - not sure if they offered or even had scholarships to offer.

I wonder if we will play with a two setter offense (6-2) next year. We will have Mia, Kellie and this new setter next year. In the past we carried just two setters.

Rumors on Volleytalk state that Dana Knudsen, 6'3" MB from Santa Clara will be playing her senior year for the Gophers.

I heard we were going to try to get a transfer to play middle blocker. Now I wonder about a libaro and if we are going to give one more scholarship in April.

I have heard Julianne Daugaard has left the program and returned to Denmark.
Kara Lindstedt is transferring from UW Green Bay to the Gophers.

Daugaard is not listed on the GopherSports.com roster. Lindstedt is now listed. Knudson is not yet listed.

The roster for 12-13 now shows 8 players. I would like to see the squad improve its depth!

I checked the Wisconsin Green Bay stats, and I see that Lindstedt did not play much last fall. She might already be in school and has decided to walk on. I don't think a transfer can be on the roster until they have registered. We really need Knudson.

There is a rumored recruit from Puerto Rico, Daly Santana, per VolleyTalk - an OH

Nooram, does the recruit from Hawaii really have an interest in the Gophers? I think we might be full for 2013. Also, I'm hoping we get the outside hitter from Puerto Rico on April 11 (spring signing date). The rumor about Dana Knudsen seems to be true because they are not looking at middle blockers (other than the Tapps).

There is a blurb on her junior club's website congratulating her on her commitment:

Thanks Nooram. It looks as if we have 5 commits for 2013. Maybe Sooter leaving opened up one more scholarship. I hope it doesn't mean we can't get the rumored recruit from Puerto Rico in school and are taking only three recruits for 2012. We have Hauer, Lawmaster and Israel for 2012. We supposedly have Capezio, Schau, the Tapp twins and now Mau for 2013.

I believe today (4-11-12) in the Spring national signing day. I don't see anything on Gophersports.com.
Does anyone know who signed? I was hoping to see more information on Karyn Israel, the setter from California, and on the outside hitter from Puerto Rico.

Article today: Gophers sign 5 in Spring

Future Gophers playing at MPLS Convention Center as part of Northern Lights Qualifier this weekend (4/13-4/15)
Taylr McNeil, Tapp Twins, Karlie Hauer will all be there this weekend. Many other D1 commits will be there as well.

Schedule Here

It looks as if the Gophers will have four setters on their roster next year. That seems to be more than they should need even if they play two setters at a time.

I saw two of the three matches in the Gopher's spring tourney yesterday. I thought the Gophers looked better than they did last year in the spring. They played only two sets in each match. They swept Northern Iowa and South Dakota. Split with NDSU. I assume we will play even better when we get a true libero next fall. Wittman, Harms and Dixon all looked good (no surprise).

Who will be our starting libero next season? This is starting to be a dangerous situation! We can't throw a low-profile freshman in Lawmaster in the fire next season! The college game will tear her apart as a freshman! Without a proven libero we would be lucky to make the Sweet 16 next year.

I'm worried also, mnsports. Maybe the senior setter, who is transfering from Santa Clara, could fill the libero role while Lawmaster picks up experience. I believe both Paula Gentil and Christine Tan started as freshmen, but I don't know if Lawmaster is ready.

Also, Rick Kern finally has Tyler-Marie Mau as a Gopher commit for 2013, so 2013 is definitely full (without a defensive specialist).

That could be a good idea! The setter from SC did have a good share of digs from last season. I'm just waiting till 2014 and hoping that we can get a commitment from Abbie Munson, the libero from Lakeville North. It's too bad though, because Wittman, and Dixon will be gone then. I really think that the Gophers are a good libero/ds away from being a final four team again.

I have heard that Taylr McNeil's scholarship offer from the U has been "pulled." In addition, an associated college is no longer listed for her on the M1 team website.

Oh no.... she is arguably one of the best '14 recruits in the country. What a shame. Why was it pulled? The Gophers' recruiting is really starting to go downhill. It's not like we snatch top recruits from out of state either...

If you want to see the Tapp twins play, the Northern Lights 17-1s are in the championship match vs TAV 17 Black at the USAV Girls Junior Nationals, 17 Open Division. The match starts at 11 AM (Central) and is being webcast here: http://usavolleyball.org/gjnc-webcast
