I think someone else posted this a long while back but I just came on it again. It shows a comparison of all the conferences combined or you can click on a conference and see that comparison as well. Georgia was certainly not an underdog according to that. 19 five star players. Maybe they have been underachievers in comparison to Alabama.

Overachiever category… better coaching?

Gundy is a very good coach but much of that has to do with how the Big 12 continues to weaken as a conference.

If you look back at 2015/2016, the most notable differences are that the bottom half of the Big Ten has become significantly better at recruiting, with a lot of new coaching hires over that time. The Big 12 has become worse.

Big 12 has had a big turnover with Texas - Ok leaving. Cinn will be an improvement. BYU has an interesting NIL deal with basically everyone getting a scholarship even walk-ons. So will see if that improves their stock.
Will be interesting to see if the star chart changes the next few years based on the NIL programs each University establishes.

Florida's the program that jumps out to me. They should be better.

Florida … LSU both in top ten in recruiting and both fired their coach.
They get kicked around a lot here but Nebraska is another prime example of where the star rankings and on field performance don't matchup at all. According to this they are in the top 25 talent wise in the country and yet they haven't finished over .500 since 2016.

Stuff like this really does illustrate the importance of coaching and finding the right players, not necessarily the highest ranked players.

Cincinnati may or may not be an improvement. Jury is still way out on that. AAC is a shitass conference.

BYU is a cottage industry. They will get very few additional "quality" players of any sort due to NIL. They will just be able to better provide for their married with children walk-ons.

The Big 12 is still taking a step back.

Not sure how anyone with a straight face could argue otherwise

Minnesota has been 10 or below in the Big Ten. We average out to about 8-9 out of a 14 team conference. We've finished top 5 on the field, in conference the last 2 full seasons.
