So has openly paying players. Some school like Miami is going to stop high school recruiting and will simply buy free agents from teams like Minnesota.
 

Fuller’s point is kind of weak.

The free COVID has far more to do with this. Unless all schools increased their scholarships (which they didn’t), it was always going to be paid on the backs of younger kids.

The free transfer year in isolation would have only limited spots at schools that took in an increase net transfers. It would have opened similar opportunities at other schools with a transfer deficit. Something else must be at play to reduce spots.
 

Players getting the extra year of eligibility has been a big part of things. However, sometimes you are taking a chance on a kid in high school. The kid in the transfer portal has video to show what he or she can do against a higher level of competition. Not a sure thing but less of a chance for failure than a HS kid.
