In an age long before pat-downs ....(1970's) .... the big thing for students to do during basketball games between the U of South Dakota (Coyotes) and South Dakota State (Jackrabbits) was to throw frozen jackrabbits on the floor during basketball games. Once in a while a sneaky fan would somehow get a frozen coyote into a game. Coyotes and jackrabbits are plentiful in the wild in South Dakota if you were wondering where they got them.
I don't know if they did this during football games because they were further away from the field. However this all stopped when a cheerleader got hit in the head by one of those frozen jackrabbits. Hope they don't start up a new tradition by throwing frozen gophers on the field.
