We have see some of Kirkwood earlier on in the season, but almost none recently. I liked what I saw out of him earlier. Also, what happened to Wright and Edwards? Are they red-shirting? Still with the team?

Read in either Strib or PiPress that Kirkwood will redshirt due to an injury that just won't go away.

I believe the other two will redshirt as well... Well, they'd better because I don't think either has played a single down.

Devon (delayed) is expected to enroll for spring semester and be at practice. Kirkwood has the hammy problem and Edwards projects as a beast more than ever. Or so I have heard and believe. Get the new coach signed and on site. I kinda of wish they would have kept Brewster and sent out feelers through a 3d party if they weren't ready to do anything but hang the program in suspension. They could have kept the plan to fire Brewster to themselves until the whistle blew on the Iowa game. This hasn't helped us, at least not yet.

I still have a sneaking suspicion that Edwards will end up on the defensive side of the ball. It will be interesting to see what a new coach does with 2 senior running backs next year with 1, 2 or possibly 3 redshirt frosh ready to compete. From the limited action we saw this year, I would argue that Kirkwood was the best running back who played.

diehard- unless maturi comes out with a detailed biography of the coaching search, which will not happen, you will never know if it helped. But given how badly we did last time, if we would have waited as long as you suggest, how could it have been anything but a disaster?

Or they could have done what MSU did. Announce the firing but let the coach finsih out the year. MSU fired Smith Nov.1, 2006 and hired Dantonio, Nov. 27 leaving them in much better position than UM who fired Mason on or about January 1, 2007 and hired Brewster January 17.

Maturi probably should have been canned over firing Glen after the bowl and not after the last conference game.

My guess, and this is pure speculation, is that Devon Wright never plays a down of football here

This isn't anywhere near finished (how hiring, recruiting, staff hirings, transfers, rest of season, team chemistry, day day atmosphere etc will work out). To think Maturi would take the best route on anything is a big ? in my mind. I am glad we are avoiding endless "Fire Brewster" chants and fan booing (are enough there to be heard anyway?). In Maturi I doubt.

Assuming everyone stays healthy, I expect to see Kirkwood and Eskridge really splitting carries early.

Bennett will compete for time next year. He will be another year further removed from knee surgery (which is huge). Though if the U of M hires a pass heavy coach I could see bennett moved to WR to get him on the field. I also wouldn't be shocked if a new coach tries to put a stamp on his first recruiting class by bringing in a Big Play RB that gets time.

Yeah, I agree with that. I think Bennett will probably be our third down back or he will be a wide receiver next season.
