Free Throws

I understand the point - and it's a valid one. But this type of analysis doesn't take into account running up-and-down the floor, banging all over the place and everything else that happens in a game. Yeah, if you were pulled out of your chair, well-rested, well-fed, strong, etc, you could probably do that. That's not what happens in a game.

I can't speak for the next guy, but I was always better at everything once I was warmed up and a little tired. After four hours of volleyball in a hundred-degree gym I was better than when I started. Take a deep breath and use your legs.

I like two-handed between-the-knees underhand. I think our Bigs should give it a try...it works for me!

I don't disagree about mo but I often see him with decent position but the problem is king never crashes so it's mo on 2 or 3 guys. I'm not saying mo doesn't deserve the criticism but we are probably the only big ten team with a pf that doesn't give any help on the glass

Yeah, i hear ya on that, but I also know there are PLENTY of instances where Mo just gets out hustled. I cannot for sure it's always his man out hustling him. I just think/wish Mo was the type of guy that said, ****... we cannot rebound.... I'm 250lbs, 6'10", obviously the biggest guy on the court, I'm gonna get EVERY rebound I can to help the team. He might be saying/thinking that, but from an outside looking in at his effort, it doesn't appear to be that way. He in no way looks frustrated/disappointed when he doesn't get a rebound and gets yanked, and maybe thats his personality, which I think is part of the problem.

Fair enough.

Completely agree with this.

Yep, it's his personality. The only time he gets fired up on the court is when he makes a basket. Scoring excites him, rebounding does not. Not to mention he has terrible hands.

You might think fee throws aren't that important but, late game 1 and 1's make a huge impact on how the game is played. You really need to get to that second shot and making just 1 of them changes the offensive emphasis and preasure on the other team. All the players should shoot at least 50 FT's at the end of practice when they are beat down tired. Any idiot who is fresh can score a FT! You need good mechanics to make them with no juice.

If Nate makes two or even one free throw = we win. Eliot's attempt was the most "scared" attempt I have even seen!

A far, far cry from John Thomas coolly knocking down two to beat Illinois in '97. He was a 60-something percent free thrower, but he knew when to make them.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Tony Parker.

Our incredible free throw stats 6 games into the Big Ten:

Gophers: 70-110 (64%)
Opponents: 99-134 (75%)

The free throw stat in a lot of ways reveals the mental aspect of this team. We don't pay attention to detail. We foul too much after we get out of position on defense. And we don't make our free throws when we get them. The combined result is that we are spotting our opponents 5 points a game in BT play.
Compounding the problem of bad free throw percentage is the times where we miss the front end of the 1 and 1 opportunities. If we shot the FTs as well as our opponents have we would have another 12 points + perhaps more with the back end of the one and one. No one can say - but I'd guess, despite other deficiencies, good free throw shooting would have us at 3-3 in the BT considering the close games we have had. Must improve there and on fundamental defense to start winning.

free throws (even Dre misses 4) missed layups., missed open shots, will we ever win a road game?????????

We blow so many FTs I literally don't want us to get fouled near the end of games. When Hollins was a freshman, it was great at the end of close games because he always had the ball in his hands, he'd get fouled, and it would be money at the line. Now, choke city.

GW and others may come on here and say "well Nebraska only shot [x] percent so it didn't matter." That would be entirely missing the point. Nebraska blowing its own opportunities to pull away shouldn't change the frustration with our own performance.

4-3 or 5-2 would be my guess. Again, despite our other deficiencies.

Huskers made their last field goal with 8:00 min left, but made 11 of their 12 last free throws.

I wonder too, why Dre got worse as he matured. I have to think most players are better free throw shooters at the end of their college careers than at the beginning (the fact they can handle crowd noise, pressure, etc. better)
