Frazier Out

Good.

He is a great coach and a great man, but I don't think he fits in college football.

He had his success at a lower-level college in the past, but that doesn't equate to the Big Ten, and recruiting is a lot different now than it was 15-20 years ago.

There is nothing in his quotes that shuts out the idea of coaching here. That's a misleading heading.

"In my heart, I feel like I could be a head coach but my focus is on what we're doing here in Minnesota with the Vikings, really trying to win a championship," Frazier told reporters at Winter Park. "I haven't given any thought to collegiate football or professional football at this point."

"It's just so hard to get a win in our league you don't want anything to split your focus. That's where my attention is, really on us to get a win against Green Bay,"

It would be nice if there was actually a quote in the story about not being interested.

"I'm focused on the Green Bay Packers" doesn't exactly equate to that.

Well then that leaves 19 other candidates on my list. I suppose 18 if you believe the Gopher Illustrated Tweet that Leach is not a candidate.

This goes from Frazier saying....

"In my heart, I feel like I could be a head coach but my focus is on what we're doing here in Minnesota with the Vikings, really trying to win a championship ... I haven't given any thought to collegiate football or professional football at this point," amidst brutal criticism from irrational Vikings fans...

to the journalist saying ...

"Leslie Frazier said today he is not considering coaching college football nor is he interested in the vacant University of Minnesota football job — for now."

to the headline being written ...

"Vikings' Leslie Frazier not interested in coaching Gophers"

to the title of this post being ...

"Frazier Out"

I have never been more convinced that Frazier is a legitimate candidate.

To be fair, it's the same Gopher Illustrated that claimed a deal was "in place" for Tony Dungy to take over as coach.

For a second there I thought the OP was Howard Cosell.

We just had a pro assistant

Let's get a real college coach this time - a head coach who knows the full range of responsibilities and has done them well.

So this is where it starts. With this long lead time and the high profile candidates being mentioned, how many headlines, tweets and blogs will we see saying, "Candidate X says he's not interested in coaching at Minnesota" before this is over?

It's good to eliminate the candidates who are not interested.

Depends what # candidate Marc Trestman is on the list. :D

If Frazier eventually takes himself out of the running, can we stop asking Dungy for advice?

No, TD will then just suggest after the hire (not Frazier) that we should have looked closer at Frazier.

I'm sorry, but where in that article does it say he's out??

I'd say it is just the opposite. He never literally comes out and says he isn't interested. He "coach speaks" his way around it.

His response actually tells us that he doesn't want to be a distraction right now for the Vikings but is in fact going to listen when the time is right.

Here's the exact quote from his news conference in its entirety:

"I think in my heart I feel like I could be a head coach, but my focus is really what we’re doing here in Minnesota with the Vikings and really trying to win a championship. I haven’t given any thought to collegiate football or professional football as far as being a head coach at this point. It’s just so hard to get a win in our league. You don’t want to have anything to split your focus and that’s where my attention is really on, helping us get a win against Green Bay."

Now, tell me, how in the world does that equate to the headline "Frazier Not Interested." ????

Nowhere does he see he is out or not interested. Please, lets title our posts accurately, especially at a time like this. Frazier isn't going to campaign for the job, he's got 11 (hopefully more) games still to play this year.
