Frank Mitchell injury

more info in the Strib:

Mitchell suffered a dislocated right shoulder after diving for a steal at midcourt in last week’s exhibition win over Hamline. He wasn’t wearing a sling Tuesday and won’t require surgery, but Mitchell’s status is week-to-week, according to Johnson.

“It’s seeing how much strength he can get back in the shoulder,” Johnson said. “It could be realistic for next week, so we’ll see how he feels.”

in other injury news:

Senior wing Femi Odukale is expected to make his Gophers debut Wednesday after missing the two exhibition games because of a hip injury.

I’ve dislocated my shoulder 3 times. I’m glad to hear he’s not using a sling. When I used a sling I had a slow recovery. After dislocations when I didn’t use a sling, I recovered quickly. At his age, I bet he’s back playing in the 1-2 week range and feeling really good after a month.

No MN team ever has rushed a player back from injury. It's always "we need to be cautious" and "we defer to the medical staff and trainers."

and I'm fine with that. If F. Mitchell is out for a month, it means more playing time for other players and helps develop the depth. when they get F. Mitchell and Cochran back, that just makes the team that much deeper.

(yes, I'm choosing to be optimistic. It would be really nice - and a lot of fun - if this team turned out to be better than people expect.)

Sucks that he has to miss some time but I guess if it was going to happen better to have it happen early in the year like this as opposed to once we get into Big Ten play.
