Great match for Fran and Penn. He was a great player there in the 80s - known as “White Magic”
"McCaffery played three seasons with the Quakers and led the Ivy League in assists (105) and steals (51) as a senior in 1981-82. Penn went 36-6 in Ivy League play across McCaffery's three seasons, winning three conference titles. He played in two NCAA tournaments."He was not a "great" player at Penn. He was a great player at the Philadelphia area La Salle High School. First Team All-City in 1977 on an all-star team that included Gene Banks (Duke, NBA), Clarence Tillman (Kentucky and Rutgers), Louis Lloyd (Drake, NBA), Jeff Clark (St. Joseph's, NBA draftee), and Reggie Jackson (Maryland). His collegiate play at Wake Forest and Penn didn't live up to his high school promise.
I’d brag about those stats if I had them."McCaffery played three seasons with the Quakers and led the Ivy League in assists (105) and steals (51) as a senior in 1981-82. Seems like he was pretty close to a "great" player at Penn to me.
And according to Reusse, Fran is the calm rational one in the family....He transferred in after one year at Wake Forest when the ACC was all that. His wife was a standout at Derham and then Notre Dame. Quite a basketball family.
I'd brag if I just was accepted to an IVY League school.I’d brag about those stats if I had them.
Because you would tell them you downgraded from Carleton.I'd brag if I just was accepted to an IVY League school.
Word.Because you would tell them you downgraded from Carleton.
I thought it was Harvard.Word.
Brown University, "The Carleton of the East Coast".
I thought it was Harvard.
They're all in the portal...to somewhere...anywhere.Ivy League refs are now thinking of retiring
His vocabulary will be above their heads. They won’t be able to tell he’s losing it.I wonder how McCaffery’s arsehole sideline act will play in the brainiac Ivy League.
It wouid be fun to play an Ivy each year. Oddly, the game sold out a few years ago when we played Cornell around Christmas time.We should schedule Penn in the non-conference just to keep the Fran-Meter alive.
That’s great"McCaffery played three seasons with the Quakers and led the Ivy League in assists (105) and steals (51) as a senior in 1981-82. Penn went 36-6 in Ivy League play across McCaffery's three seasons, winning three conference titles. He played in two NCAA tournaments."

Went to Philly once and gave myself a tour. It was November. Walked through the stadium as there were intramural flag football games going on. Then walked to the Palestra. I could hear some cheering and the doors were open. I walked in and it was full. Watch the last 1:30 of Wisconsin/Penn in a non conference game. Kind of felt like I walked into the movie Hoosiers.I do love that football stadium at Penn.
