Minnesota football legend Gino Cappelletti passed away on Thursday. He was 89-years old.
Cappelletti played for the Golden Gophers from 1951 to 1954. In college, he was the quarterback and backup kicker. After college, he had various stints with Canadien football teams from 1955 to 1959. Cappelletti was actually drafted to United State army halfway through the season in 1956, and returned to Canada in 1958.
After his time with Canadian football, he was drafted by the AFL’s Boston Patriots and played for them from 1960 to 1970. He would go on to become a Hall of Famer with the Patriots organization. Cappelletti played kicker and quarterback during his time with the Patriots. After his playing career, he was the Patriots broadcaster for 28 years.
