Minnesota football legend Gino Cappelletti passed away on Thursday. He was 89-years old.
Cappelletti played for the Golden Gophers from 1951 to 1954. In college, he was the quarterback and backup kicker. After college, he had various stints with Canadien football teams from 1955 to 1959. Cappelletti was actually drafted to United State army halfway through the season in 1956, and returned to Canada in 1958.
After his time with Canadian football, he was drafted by the AFL’s Boston Patriots and played for them from 1960 to 1970. He would go on to become a Hall of Famer with the Patriots organization. Cappelletti played kicker and quarterback during his time with the Patriots. After his playing career, he was the Patriots broadcaster for 28 years.

Agree. That was a cool one.

On a side note, I did a google search for it and found the one I remembered, but there must have been an earlier one that looks like the football ghost on Scooby Doo.

The Boston Patriots played at Harvard Stadium in 1962; played at Fenway from 1963 to 1969; and played at Harvard again in 1970. The Patriots’ QB in 1970 was Joe Kapp. Team became the New England Patriots and moved to Foxboro in 1971.

Yup, Cap is wearing that in the kicking picture. That was actually the second Pats helmet. I threw in the original helmet at the bottom because folks rarely remember it.

It also noted that Cap scored the first points in AFL history.
