A former Minnesota defensive lineman has settled on a transfer destination.
Bowling Green received a commitment from Ali Saad on Wednesday. The ex-Golden Gopher made his announcement with a post on Twitter. Saad spent just one season in the Twin Cities before departing from the program. He’ll have all four years of eligibility remaining.
Saad is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound native of Dearborn, Michigan. He was a 3-star member of Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class.
Out of high school, Saad ranked as one of the Top 100 defensive tackles in the recruiting class and was listed as the No. 30 player out of Michigan. He initially committed to play at Minnesota in June 2019.
Nearly 30 schools offered Saad out of high school. He picked Minnesota over other Power 5 programs like Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Northwestern and Rutgers.
Saad did not see any game action for the Golden Gophers during the 2020 campaign. The team finished with a 3-4 record.

Wow. I was high on him but they are obviously have quite a bit of talent. But a guy with 30 offers you think would grow into the role in a few years. But who knows. Best of luck to him.

It takes incredible patience like what Boye Mafe and David Cobb did. Some young players want to play right away, and can't wait in development. Competition can be a humbling experience. Every kid has to make a decision in the pecking order.

Best of luck to him. I am excited to see this year's defense after losing guys like Ali Saad.

At least Fleck didn't do that jerky thing some coaches do where they try to keep players from transferring to an upcoming opponent - sometimes for 4 years! We'll see Ali back at TCF this September.

Speaking only for myself, but I suspect some others feel the same way, we imagine many or even most recruits developing into a contributor, starter, all-conference performer or potential NFL talent so it is disappointing to see guys leave without fulfilling that promise - even though we know not everyone can succeed based purely on numbers and spots. Good luck to you Ali.

I was hoping that was a typo and he was headed to Hamline. Go Pipers!

Fun fact Minnesotans: University Avenue was named after Hamline and not the U, as Hamline was first.
