Former #Gophers DE commit transfers to MN from Clemson.

Guy enrolled in January and did spring ball at Clemson. Just turned 18.

Adam committed to the Gophers last summer right after his official visit. Clemson would flip him about a month later.

So he's technically in what would have been the spring of his senior year of high school?

That was fast, he entered the portal this morning. He must have known that Minnesota would still take him.

reminder - who is he?

listed at 6'7" & 230lbs coming out of HS

HS Scouting report from Nov, 2023: By far one of the more unique prospects in the 2024 cycle given measurements and background. Well over 6-foot-6 and believed to be pushing 6-foot-8. Former soccer player that started football career off playing quarterback before transitioning to tight end and then eventually defensive end. Recruited by most schools to rush the passer at the next level, but doubled as an offensive tackle during senior season and actually flashed plenty of potential in that role. More of a finesse rusher at this stage that lacks the desired play strength, but likely to undergo a major physical transformation once lifting in a college weight room, which could unlock some things. Can work laterally, but has to learn how to not get washed away. Should be viewed as a developmental take with rare features. Could morph into a true difference-maker if it all comes together.

H.S. Athletic Background

Grew up playing soccer.
----
2023: Two-way player getting snaps at DE and OT for Palm Bay Heritage. Credited with 35 tackles (9 TFL) and 4 sacks.
2022: As a junior, totaled 33 tackles (13 for loss), 8.5 sacks and 2 PBU in 9 games for a Bayside program that competed in Florida’s 3S classification.

PJ's culture is what a lot of players are looking for. Welcome aboard thanks for helping Make Gopher Football Great Again. A great defense starts at the line of scrimmage.

Wow what a whirlwind of a week! So he’s a T-Fr right??

Are we done with DEs for our HS class then? Just inside guys I’d imagine from this point on

Wow! This is great...perhaps a little help now on the offensive line? Or are we set?

This is awesome. He was a loss that felt like it could sting years later. Felt like the potential was through the roof. Glad to have him back!

If he’s 6’7” and athletic, maybe a TE in the future? Offensive tackle might be as realistic as Edge for him. Good project to work with.

Maybe Karmo will be a LB that blitzes a lot. Also, maybe they switch Smith to DT. He’s certainly big enough and would provide a good inside rush. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens.

I noticed 2 DE scheduled visits have committed elsewhere. There are still 10 DL visits scheduled. Maybe they take 2 or 3 more.

I like those long arms.

As a prospect he was a composite 3 star with a 0.8844 rating, #38 ranked EDGE in the nation, #73rd ranked player in FL.

Had offers from:
  • Clemson
  • Us
  • Rutgers
  • Connecticut
  • East Carolina
  • Florida A&M
  • Florida Atlantic
  • Iowa State
  • Liberty
  • Marshall
  • Massachusetts
  • Miami
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi State
  • Nebraska
  • Temple
  • USF
  • Utah
  • Western Kentucky
Should be a good player for us!

Something tells me the DL is going to be much, much improved. Coach D has got a vision these kids are responding to, and it probably doesn't hurt he isn't that far removed from his playing days. He can directly relate to the kids. Dude is in beast mode!
They were doing well last year as a unit, then it went south I believe starting with the Purdue game. Not sure if it was injuries, ran out of gas, or what. Not much went right last year.

I'm curious why he left Clemson.

But obviously glad he decided to grab an oar. Lot farther away from home.

Rumors on the Clemson board claim he didn't want to redshirt. Who knows if there is any truth to that.
It might be tough for him to not RS here.

We have Joyner, Logan-Redding, Striggow, and Anthony Smith who all got a lot of reps last year. We have Howard coming in. Logan-Redding and Smith play more of the DE/DT but Striggow will be a 5th year SR. This doesn't even factor in if any of our young DEs emerge as well.

My guess is that it's not a RS thing.
