Former Gopher Jeff Selleck: We were in a good place w/ Kill; too early tell w/ Claeys

Jeff Selleck was a starting center and long snapper for the 1973 Gophers football team that finished 6-2 in the Big Ten (losses to Michigan and Ohio State) during coach Cal Stoll's second season at Minnesota.

"We were in a good place with (recently retired Gophers coach Jerry) Kill; it's too early to tell with (successor Tracy) Claeys," Selleck said of his alma mater. "I do agree that (Claeys) should have gotten rid of (offensive coordinator Matt) Limegrover. The offensive game plans the last three, four years have been average at best. Now it's wait and see."

The situation with Kill was good because, when Kill couldn't be there: TC became the acting head coach. Kill and Limegrover handled the offensive coordinator duties...and if Kill was incapacitated and unable to perform then Limegrover was in charge of offense. Since this former player didn't feel that the offensive game plans have been so top notch the past 3 to 4 years, part of the problem, according to his statement is currently under revision and is being changed. So, of course, time will tell...but: the time is NOW starting with the bowl game and then the 2016 & 2017 conference seasons. Things are looking up! I am very excited about the near-term future for Golden Gopher Football under TC & his STAFFERS! I think even Mr. Selleck may eventually become a bit more enthusiastic about TC!
 




We read worthless opinions on this site all the time. It's a message board. A ex player chimes in and some of you are all over his opinion. Take it for what it is, one mans opinion.
 

We'll get a good indication of Clayes and his offense when the OC is hired. I think he will be better than
Kill for many reasons. One is "change" Kill.would've never fired Limegrover and Zembrowski. If we were under Kill next year it would be " same old, same old". Under the Kill regime most of the games were won because we had a good defense that made great adjustments.

Agreed, Kill was loyal to a fault, even when it was clear that changes needed to be made. I've liked what I've seen from Claeys to this point, he's making some tough long overdue decisions that I think will benefit the program moving forward.
 



People think it was crazy stupid to have 2 play callers...that was Kill's decision. Sit on the ball before half time? Yep, Kill made those calls too. I liked Kill, but if we're going to disect much of the past (offense included) then we need to be honest and say Kill fell short in places too. Some NIU fans think their big run the year after Kill left, wouldn't have happened if Kill stayed.

I hope Claeys proves to be eve better than Kill.

It is amusing when the media finds a past player, most of us have not heard of, for a quote. If I run into Craig Otto, I will ask him his thoughts
 

Before assessing the validity of Selleck's opinion, I would need to have a look at his scarf.
