16 turnovers, a first-year big time D-1 A coach, a QB who is limited, lots of talent lost from last year's so-so team = a 4 win team max.
It's a game the Gophers should win on Saturday … and quite frankly, win easily.
QB who is limited? Joey Elliott leads the Big Ten in passing yards and total offense. He also has a 58 yard rushing TD to his credit. He's thrown some picks and has fumbled but he's not limited.
I really disagree with that Doogie and I can't see any evidence to back it up. You have to go back to the FAU game last september to see a game where the Gophers won easily. Since then we've been in 14 consecutive games that we either lost handily, or the game was in question going into the 4th quarter.
Purdue has played Oregon, Notre Dame, and NW very tough in loses this year. They have a running game and we don't. We are coming off of an emotional loss to a rival and that hasn't spelled success for Brew in the past. Don't get me wrong I expect us to win this game. Purdue has to be down after another heartbreaker to NW. I just don't see us running away with this thing.
Gophers 27 Purdue 21
Easily is a loose term...I am not suggesting a three TD win, but a double-digit lead in the 4th (10 to 13 pts), with maybe a late Pur. score to make it seem closer than it was. I think everything that entails it being homecoming takes care of any sort of emotional hangover from last week.
Does he lead because they've been behind and seen prevent defenses from time-to-time? Carmin seems to think he doesn't have the ability to go any further than 15-20 yards downfield.
Nope. With the exception of the NIU game, they've had the lead in the 4th quarter of every game only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. In fact, look at the number of plays the Purdue offense has run compared to their opponents. The TOP has killed them. I'm not saying he's Drew Brees or Kyle Orton, but he's definitely not limited. Carmin is correct about throwing the ball downfield, but who cares how you get your yards.
Mike Carmin eh? Did you try to get Jeff Washburn? Perhaps Brian Neubert from the Rivals website...or is that taboo
They do have an experienced O-line I hear...Yes on Washburn...he was very nice, but said Carmin was the better person...Rivals idea while good is maybe not the best route for us to take here at GH...4-games is a good sample size, but obviously not enormous...some of his yds came late in the Oregon when they were down 8, and in a hurry-up offense...
Bottom-line, he is in, in my opinion, the bottom-half of starters in the Big Ten...he won't go downfield...he shouldn't be super tough to scheme against, although he can run...

Honest question, do you watch any college football besides supposedly watching the gophers?
Not as much this year as I would like between helping plan a wedding and other personal issues, but generally yes...and haven't missed a Gophers snap all year....love the CBS SEC games.

The first quarter isn't even over yet. This cat fight seems premature.
