For Pete's sake -- Boilermakers need a win

"...they [Purdue] need a win desperately. Their issue: they aren’t very good."

BRILLIANT!!

16 turnovers, a first-year big time D-1 A coach, a QB who is limited, lots of talent lost from last year's so-so team = a 4 win team max.

Brandon Whittington? Wow. He had about as much of an impact for Purdue as David Pittman has had for the Gophers. I had to think for a minute who he was.

Don't sleep on the Boilers Doogie, they may not win, but the Gophers aren't good enough to beat any Big Ten team "easily". The line in Vegas pretty much suggests these teams are even.

QB who is limited? Joey Elliott leads the Big Ten in passing yards and total offense. He also has a 58 yard rushing TD to his credit. He's thrown some picks and has fumbled but he's not limited.

Purdue is not as bad as some would like us to believe. We are favored, and it would be an upset if we got beat, but from a national perspective a very minor one. Let's not pretend we're OSU and they're Indiana State. With our inconsistency, this is no gimme game.

It's a game the Gophers should win on Saturday … and quite frankly, win easily.

I really disagree with that Doogie and I can't see any evidence to back it up. You have to go back to the FAU game last september to see a game where the Gophers won easily. Since then we've been in 14 consecutive games that we either lost handily, or the game was in question going into the 4th quarter.

Purdue has played Oregon, Notre Dame, and NW very tough in loses this year. They have a running game and we don't. We are coming off of an emotional loss to a rival and that hasn't spelled success for Brew in the past. Don't get me wrong I expect us to win this game. Purdue has to be down after another heartbreaker to NW. I just don't see us running away with this thing.

Does he lead because they've been behind and seen prevent defenses from time-to-time? Carmin seems to think he doesn't have the ability to go any further than 15-20 yards downfield.

Easily is a loose term...I am not suggesting a three TD win, but a double-digit lead in the 4th (10 to 13 pts), with maybe a late Pur. score to make it seem closer than it was. I think everything that entails it being homecoming takes care of any sort of emotional hangover from last week.

Let's hope that's true. Purdue sandwhiched between Wiscy and a two game road swing against Ohio and Penn St sounds like trap to me. I'm not sure homecoming allwos more focus to this game or distraction from it. We need this victory, so I'll take any kind of a win be it fourteen points or one.

Nope. With the exception of the NIU game, they've had the lead in the 4th quarter of every game only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. In fact, look at the number of plays the Purdue offense has run compared to their opponents. The TOP has killed them. I'm not saying he's Drew Brees or Kyle Orton, but he's definitely not limited. Carmin is correct about throwing the ball downfield, but who cares how you get your yards.

Mike Carmin eh? Did you try to get Jeff Washburn? Perhaps Brian Neubert from the Rivals website...or is that taboo :D

They do have an experienced O-line I hear...Yes on Washburn...he was very nice, but said Carmin was the better person...Rivals idea while good is maybe not the best route for us to take here at GH...4-games is a good sample size, but obviously not enormous...some of his yds came late in the Oregon when they were down 8, and in a hurry-up offense...
Bottom-line, he is in, in my opinion, the bottom-half of starters in the Big Ten...he won't go downfield...he shouldn't be super tough to scheme against, although he can run...

Nice interview, but I just don't anticipate an "easy" win...IMHO an up-and-down struggle resulting in a "lunch-pail" W based on four Qs of hard work and disciplined execution, assuming the Gs play up to their talent level.

Washburn is a great guy. I'v known him since my undergrad days down there. I guess he and Carmin flip flop covering hoops and football and this must be Carmin's year to be the official football beat writer.

I agree, Elliott isn't going to generate much attention but you can't really ignore him. If he doesn't throw a pick or fumble, they will beat the Gophers. Who knows, maybe not throwing the deep ball is all part of the master plan. Enjoy the game. I will not be there as I am headed out of town first thing in the morning.

BTW Doogie, we have some mutual friends so I think I've met you before. It was at a certain watering hole in South St. Paul a few years back, the same watering hole our Governor used to frequent (or still does?)

Honest question, do you watch any college football besides supposedly watching the gophers?

Not as much this year as I would like between helping plan a wedding and other personal issues, but generally yes...and haven't missed a Gophers snap all year....love the CBS SEC games.

Awesome. You admit that you have not put in any research, got your sh!t thrown back in your face re: the PU quarterback and the team in general. You basically have no idea what you're talking about with respect to Purdue, yet you make ridiculous statements that the Gophers should "win easily". You've set yourself up nicely for trashing the team if they lose. How very TC media of you. You fit right in with the rest of the d-bags (Barrerree, Roosseee, et al).

Couple all this with the fact that none of you have any idea what it's like to actually compete athletically (let alone run around the block without keeling over) or really accomplish anything at all...it's just pathetic. I can't wait until both those papers go out of business, just so you hacks have to try to get real jobs.

I can type this all day if you want as punishment ... YOU WERE RIGHT, I WAS WRONG ... the lack of a pass rush combined with the soft zone is bothersome, but Elliott can play ... the Theret dropped int. aside.

The first quarter isn't even over yet. This cat fight seems premature.

This is to the assho*e PU fan that stiffed me on the tickets two years ago. You know who you are and I got my payback today knowing that you are a fan of this team that might not win a big ten game this year.
