It drives me nuts when people compare coaches' win totals from different eras, as if 66 wins for Fleck means the same thing it meant for Henry Williams, Bernie Bierman, or Murray Warmath. I don't think Fleck is one of the most successful coaches in Minnesota football history. I think he's had one excellent season, a handful of pretty good ones, and several mediocre ones. But because the team plays twelve games in a season instead of eight, he accumulates wins faster. Remember, when Bernie Bierman or Murray Warmath won eight games, it meant they were national champions. When Fleck wins eight games, it means he's lost five.
Having said that, I don't hate Fleck, I wish him the best, and congratulations coach on your extension.
