Fleck on Taylor injury: "It doesn't seem too bad, which is really good. So, we got really good, positive diagnosis on that.”

So now that he sat out the Cal game and got the BYE week in addition, he'll be back today, right?

Man, what a gut shot. Coin flip game at home coming off a bye week and your top two backs are STILL out. Talk about some bad luck. Sort of the reverse of the situation last year when Rutgers was missing Monangai, right? Hopefully the outcome flips as well :)

Even when Taylor played last year, probably half of the time he was gimpy. If we can’t rely on him I hope he chooses to go pro next year and we use the NIL elsewhere.

A pair and three spares. LeCaptain time? Gophs version of a Swiss army knife...

Pro?

He has ability, but that isn’t uncommon in many college backs. I find his draft potential iffy, at best, based on his lack of durability.

Still remember Bud schooling El Sid when discussing Rick Fenney.

“Sid, he’s got all the ability in the world, but that doesn’t matter if you can’t stay on the field. Durability is just as important as ability.”

Bucky was a 4th round pick by Tampa, after completing three seasons without any significant injuries IIRC and putting up monster numbers in his sophomore (1,357 total yards & 13 TDs) and junior seasons (1,593 total yards & 13 TDs).

Yeah, Taylor will have to prove he can stay on the field before he will have any real pro potential beyond being undrafted and making a team that way. No team is going to blow a draft pick on a RB who can't make it through a full college season even if he is talented as Taylor clearly is.

Outside of the RB position we are in good shape heading into this one. Hopefully our remaining backs can hold up and we don't have a situation like a few years ago where we had to get to #5/#6 on the depth chart at a key position.

First thought: If PJ was more open about injuries, there is no way Vegas would have put the Gophers as a 5 point favorite. Anyway, Fame and Cam Davis are an OK pair. Maybe we will see some of Grant Washington and Xavier Ford today. Both appear to have between-the-tackles ability and requisite size. Ford's highlights tape reminds me a bit of of Mo: vision & breaks arm tackles. Downfield speed about the same as Mo's, too(!). For an offense that leans on RBs the way PJ's does (in non-Brosmer years), resilience is as important as natural ability. If it has been known for the past two weeks that Turner is out for the season and that DT might not play, one would hope that the Gophers have game planned a more robust and creative passing game. This is beginning to feel like it could be one of those games that some GHers (including me) in retrospect like to criticize as a "play not to lose" game--i.e. a plodding, conservative offensive game plan, marked by poor field position most of the game, most likely doomed to fail if the opponent's offense is working. Go Gophers.

More accurately should’ve said pro or otherwise including transfer.

Agree, but I wouldn't mind seeing a little of Washington or Ford (#5 and #6) today.

DT is not a pro prospect as it sits. Scat back who can’t stay healthy is not screaming pro potential. He’s a 10-15 touch a game kind of guy. Wish PJ would use him as so. There’s a reason Bucky looked like a beast at Oregon doing exactly that

Close to zero chance of the NFL for Taylor. He still is our best offensive player by far though.

Oregon could afford to use Bucky that way due to all the other weapons they had. We don’t have that same luxury

A healthy DT is definitely a NFL running back. He's also much bigger than Bucky.

Absolutely. He gets a lot of nagging injuries and I think he'll benefit having an NFL strength and conditioning staff.

I don't think strength and conditioning is an issue. He has hamstring problems, which we see all of the time in the NFL too, especially early in the season.
