Fleck is fired up on KFAN

Pretty confident these guys don't make $7 million dollars per year.
Don't know all things about them...but they seem to win.
Mike Elko Duke
Lance Leipold Kansas
Chris Klieman Kansas St
Better or worse?

A special coach will have his reputation and connections.

Fleck has landed more 4*s than any other coach who has coached here by far. Who are these other special coaches landing a bunch of 4* and 5*s without NIL?

Please everyone read post #161 by @EG#9

Grand slam, ball out of the stadium. Shut the thread down

Someone who actually is on the inside should print it out and staple it to PJ's desk.

We haven’t had that many guys that teams would be coming for yet.
This. He makes is seem like we only lost one out of a hundred or so players, when in reality Bucky was probably one of just a few anyone else wanted. JMS maybe? Nubin and Walley? Those are about the only players since Bucky left that could even sniff NIL from other schools.

Beat Louisiana, then beat Michigan in 2 weeks. Then go on a rant in your postgame on field interview on how "This is the last time we will ever hold this jug unless we get a competitive NIL program...I am doing all I can but Minnesotans I need your help". THAT resonates.

Sir, I'd buy you a beer. Helluva post, helluva post.

I said it on Sunday and I’ll said it again here

————————————————————-
They try to get $250K in donations in their upcoming fundraising event at that golf course, who the F will donate when you don’t win?

We get it and accept if you don’t win versus MI or tOSU, but my god, to be up by 3 TDs and then allow it to go into OT and lose? Cmon! Even if we did win that game last night, we’d still be pissed and irritated to allow NW to come back like they did, but with a LOSS? Man, I’m still fuming!

I can see it now, all previous committed 4⭐️ and even some 3⭐️ recruits will drop MN because we are irrelevant and we don’t have NIL money to provide them. We don’t have NIL money because we don’t win games that we’re supposed to win.

PJ does not have any “Prime effect”, we as a program don’t have competitive NIL sponsors or money, we don’t win games, we don’t really have much to attract talents. It’s a broken wheel.

MN will forever be stuck with most 2-3⭐️ recruits and a 2nd to bottom tier B1G team, especially now with 4 amazing PAC 12 teams rolling into B1G next year.

Imagine the recruiting power those 4 PAC12 teams will have once their in the B1G conference?! They’re already winning programs, they already have top recruiting classes without being in the B1G conference, and now they’ll get even more media money from being in the B1G! C’mon, it’s like adding more gas into a huge bonfire!

Formula to turn our program around?

1) New HC who’s will get us more 4⭐️ and our first 5⭐️ recruits

2) we start winning

3) more NIL donations due to the fact that we’re winning all sort of games (games that we should AND games that we were dogs in)

4) now with more NIL money, more 4⭐️ and 5⭐️ recruits

Reinvent the wheel!

All starts with a new HC that will have some sort of “effect”

Not this RTB culture. RTB is a great philosophy to better a person, not to winning games.

——————————————————————-

Bottom line is when you don’t win, no one will give you money.

Not sure how much any of you donated but I’ve donated a lot on money to football program since 2019.

Why, because we were winning and it made me happy. When I’m happy, I’d be happy to give them my money! You lost to NC, OK, I wasn’t happy but I can swallow the loss, you lost to NW, F that! I’m done.

I stopped all of my donations to the football program and cancelled my DTA commitment, all because of their shitty performances.

Don’t win the games that you’re supposed to win, you ain’t getting my money.

I’m off to join team TRAYLOR

Just because you bolded the print doesn't make it possible for a new coach to bring in 4 and 5 star players without NIL.

Your plan has a big faulty assumption leading it off.

I’ve said it about a year and a half now.

The way you can have parity even in the age of NIL is to lower the roster limits.

70 guys can practice and play on your roster. Would change the game. AAA still. But AAA would still have a ton of talent

Sure, there are all kinds of things that could be done to increase parity.

Problem is: those at the top don’t want parity!! They want to maintain their oligopoly. And they have the power.

Only way it can get done is if TV decides it’s in their best interest to inject some parity into the system. Then it would get done. Short of that, no chance.

My wife and I put two kids through the U on our dime, along with scholarships...no student loans, and it was tough, but a great gift for the people that mean the most to us.
After everything we went through, I can't justify paying somebody else's kid to attend college to play a sport. I've done enough.

One thing that I thought of that hasn't been mentioned is how will NIL play with RTB? What I mean is this: if I'm not mistaken, PJ requires players to wear a collared shirt to class, sit in the front row, etc. And he has them do things like wear a 75 pound back pack on 9/11.

Well, if I was a booster able to cough up a million bucks or whatever to keep Darius Taylor here, I'm sure as heck not gonna be happy if he's on the sidelines because he skipped class or didn't wear the backpack. One of the conditions of my NIL (of that size) would be that if I kick in $1M to keep him here, he plays whether he participates in the backpack ceremony or not. He plays regardless of what he wears to class; he plays even if he sleeps though some classes.

I doubt PJ would tolerate that only non-NIL players have to row the boat, so would big booster NIL even work with Fleck?

Yeah, wasn't Bobby Bowden pretty upset when the scholly limit went down to 85. But it spread talent around.

If you assume a coach can get more than one or two 4* or 5* players without NIL then you're the one with the faulty assumption.

Great idea...make it happen!

Why didn't Taylor go to Michigan this year then? Who have we lost to NIL besides Bucky? Didn't Cincinnati make the CFP 2 seasons ago? Didn't TCU make it last season? Clemson is going to miss it for the 3rd straight season. Alabama continues to look less and less dominant. When has Texas ever made the CFP?

Good lord this board has become a complete shit show this week.
We can't stress as much about our coach being poached so now we can replace that by assuming all star players are going to get stolen after every good season.

Maybe Taylor gets stolen away after this year and maybe he doesn't, but panicking about it before it even happens is a waste of time.

I do hope they get a handle on the poaching though because it is BS for teams to go after players that are not in the portal. There needs to be a harsh punishment of some kind when it happens or you will have boosters shopping other teams rosters trying to lure players away with offers of big money payouts. There is a reason pro leagues have rules against tampering. It is bad for the sport.

We are caught in a perfect storm now with unregulated pay for play combined with free transfers and immediate eligibility. At some point they will get a handle of some kind on all this but at the moment it is a mess.

Even in pro sports, depending on the coach, star athletes still have to follow team rules.

No school or coach worth a damn would allow some asshole like you (in your hypothetical) to dictate how the team functions or undermine whatever culture they are trying to establish. That's not unique to Fleck.

Here is my deal and what I struggle with. I, like most people, work full-time and have some available income that I like to donate and purchase entertainment (Gopher Tickets for me). They nearly doubled the price of my tickets, for the students of course. Now, I am being asked to pay for the players who are attending college for free. Meanwhile, I just got over paying my own student loans a few years ago. I want to help but I don't get the feeling I am giving money to poor college kids. They definitely eat better than I do, have medical access readily available, living expenses are covered, not to mention all the perks of being a Big 10 football player on campus, etc - if anything they should be giving money to the fans... I am just kidding, kind of...

Fleck is an idiot for whining about the NIL. Put a better product on the field and don't look like a shit coach. If I was a big donor I'd look at the past 5 years and the current product and think why the hell would I donate money to this?

...and go back to the rule of sitting out a year after transferring.

I know that will never happen, not anymore...but, just a thought.

True, but I think Fleck goes a little further than most. Plus at the pro level, the people responsible for the rules are tightly coupled with the person cutting the paychecks. Not necessarily the case with NIL.

I'm talking about where the programs are at today. The Gophers are significantly ahead of Rutgers and Indiana. And I know PJ hasn't beaten Kirk yet, but it's not like Iowa has dominated us in those games either. The opposite is more true, and it has just been a few plays that has decided 3 of the last 4 games.

Over the last 4 years PJ is 32-14 (21-13) and Kirk is 34-14 (24-11). If two of the last four Gopher/Iowa games swing the other way, that's the only difference between the two. And despite the offensive complaints here, Iowa's has been much worse.

And that's with Iowa pulling in $280 million more in donations over the last 17 years.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts every day would be Christmas. Those games didn’t swing the other way though.

Your argument over the past couple years is close though. To each their own, I was thinking you were meaning more than the last year or two.

I get that, but how many other programs have the requirements of Fleck's? I mean, if I'm a booster and I'm funding a kid to play in the SEC, I'm rather comfortable thinking that kid will play unless he violated a rule like being late to practice or something else related to football.

For instance, if you were paying Zach Evans to be here, out of your own pocket, and you see him sitting on the sidelines, apparently healthy, but not getting into the games...wouldn't you feel like your NIL was wasted? Especially if it was because he slept through a class?

Absolutely. Do SEC teams even expect kids to go to class? They ain't there to play school.
