Per Football Scoop:

Air Force's Troy Calhoun slides up to No. 2 as he heads into Year 19 in Colorado Springs, and Clemson's Dabo Swinney is now No. 3. And pushing off Penn State's advances was great for Kalani Sitake's standing here -- he's now in the top-10 as he, Kirby Smart and PJ Fleck head into Year 11 at their respective jobs.

A few notes:

-- Illinois's Bret Bielema (Year 6) marks the top 25, and none other than Coach Prime (Year 4) is in the top 50 at No. 49.
-- The median hire date for FBS head coaches in 2026 is Dec. 9, 2023. Half of all FBS head coaches have been on the job less than three seasons.
-- A housekeeping note: We use the date that the school announced each hire as the date here, which is how Jimmy Rogers has technically been at Iowa State longer than Matt Campbell has at Penn State. Clunky in that case, sure, but overall it's still the best practice.
-- On that note, Nov. 30, 2025, will go down in history in the SEC. Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU and Ole Miss all officially started new eras on the exact same day.

Wild narduzzi has an ACC title but also would probably be even more frustrating with his results than flecks

He said that the reason is because there isn’t demand for fleck from schools better than Mn and Minnesota doesn’t fire coaches for failing to win big ten titles



So I said I didn’t know that you’re telling me for the first time
 


Seems hard to believe Bert is on the list at Illinois...does not seem that long ago he came back to the Big Ten. Or maybe it's that so few others have any longevity.

A huge part of it:

Covid was both last year and 6 years ago


Fleck has been here 40% longer post covid than pre covid
 




11 years of eating difficult conversations for breakfast.

I have a picture I took with Fleck at the first press conference. He still had hair
 



This program before Fleck had some players get in trouble with bad press. That doesn't fit what we value in Minnesota. Under Fleck there has been none of that.

He hasn't done anything to be canned and hasn't been so good he's off to someplace else.

Seems like a good hire to me.

And then there's this thing called money for players. Everyone knows Minneaota is not in the top league for that, not his fault.

I credit Fleck for boldly coming out a couple years ago and saying Minnesota would become a farm league if support didn't improve. I think he's done better than anyone could expect. He's better than par.

Would be nice to hang at the bottom.of the AP 25. Would be nice if he did just a bit better.

The new Big Ten is a bigger stage for Minnesota.

I’m saying I don’t think there is a single person with intelligence who would rather have fleck than cignetti at this point?

The only possible argument is that cignetti is closer to death because he is older

Or that he'd leave for a different job after a year or 2.
 

Head football coach at Minnesota is a good gig.

- Multi-millionaire, and you can slap whatever personal slogan you want on the helmet, signs, etc. and keep the money from that (FULLY granted that it's for a great cause and charity)
- play teams like Northwestern State in non-conf and count those wins
- win 8 games a year and you'll never be fired
