Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

Clearly these 2 aren't getting it done with their ugly mediocrity.
It's a money deal? Get more money or someone who knows how to get it.
Do it now.
Minnesota will not do better than Fleck. The next 5 coaches won’t be as good as Fleck. You can take that to the bank. MN is lucky to have Fleck.

Who would you rather have?
Fleck or Kill?
Fleck or Brewster?
Fleck or Mason?
Fleck or Gutekunst?
Fleck or Wacker?
Fleck or Holtz? (for 2 yrs)
Fleck or Salem?
Fleck or Stoll?

I’ll take Fleck over all the above. That spans over half a century of The University of Minnesota football. I’m sure the next guy will be better though. History says he will, right?

I was in high school and college in the '90s. Go ask chat GPT or co-pilot how many bowl games the Gophers made in the '90s.......

I will do it for you. Here is the answer....

Answer: The Minnesota Golden Gophers made one bowl game in the 1990s — the 1999 Sun Bowl.

I get the frustration. I am frustrated. It seems like we just can't take that next step. Even the year we finished in the top 10 we lost to our rivals. Trust me, I get the frustration.

That said, PJ is the best thing that's happened to this team. In the last 40 years. We make both games. We beat ranked teams. We win bowl games. We just can't seem to take the next step. And I'm starting to come to the realization that maybe we never will. Just be happy with above average.

Remember when we fired Mason? Did he deserve it? Maybe. But were we as fans delusional to what we thought we could be? 100%.

PJ has put us in a bowl game. How many years in a row? Hell, we have finished in the top 10 under him. We win bowl games. We win a couple games every year that we shouldn't and we lose a game every year that we shouldn't. We are not great. We are not bad. In all honesty, in today's landscape of college football, I don't see any reason to fire him now. Who knows, maybe next year is a 10-win season or maybe next year's a four-win season. It's going to take a couple of those less than six win seasons in a row in order for me to say, let's find the next coach.

I don't want to get Brewster'd again.
History often repeats itself because of man's inability to learn from it. A story as old as time

And We’re not Wisconsin

Who would you rather have?
Fleck or Kill - with all of the current resources in place?
Fleck or Brewster - with all of the current resources in place?
Fleck or Mason - with all of the current resrouces in place and the significantly inflated number of bowls?
Fleck or Gutekunst - with all of the current resrouces in place and the significantly inflated number of bowls?
Fleck or Wacker - Same culture, but he's um...dead.
Fleck or Holtz? - at 88?
Fleck or Salem - at 87?
Fleck or Stoll? - he's um....dead.

This would be a more interesting discussion, but pointless.

Fleck is our coach. He will be unless or until he continues to lose his composure on the sidelines and punches a ref, or he chooses to leave. I thnk there needs to be more accountability for him in more than words, but we need a competent AD to manage that, we don't have one of those. And an admin that can see the value of sports at the U without putting it into the succeed at all costs stratosphere.

Pretty sure that was a Claeys recruit that PJ kept the committment
Nope, you're a dumb ass and also all of your other examples were freshman when Fleck took over he developed them there more his players than Clawys and if you want to get technical about credit they were Kills recruits

Nope, PJ recruited Rashod Batemen 100% he never is a Gopher without coach Fleck. Georgia tried to poach him late, but PJ kept him a Gopher. Johnson might have been a Kill/ Claeys recruit, but developed under Fleck.

The choice was made made years ago to embrace "culture". That culture wants a certain type of player. Those early high draft picks through 2019 weren't necessarily Fleck recruits. My point is that in embracing culture, you may not necessarily get the type of athlete that teams such as Ohio State and Oregon get. If the current Coaches and AD will be staying in their current positions, a leap of faith is going to need to take place if they want to move forward - either in philosophy of recruiting or in mainly Offensive choices. Being a "Developmental" program is ok. However, what our players are being developed into is boring as hell on Offense with no chance to win a high scoring game. Higher end high school recruits will make choices to go elsewhere. Ask yourself the question "How many Gophers are getting drafted from our offense"? Georgia Tech ran into this under Paul Johnson. Ran a system that didn't get the recruits the pros were looking for and the pros quick looking at them. Lindsey is staring at this now. He will need help or potentially go elsewhere.
Players go where they're paid best. How is this so difficult for people to understand? OSU literally spent 30m on their team prior to revenue sharing. PJ tries to keep games low scoring and close to give his athlete spending level a chance in the 4th qtr. Sometimes it fails miserably.

Most of the UMN connected businesses have been sold or are controlled by outside Minnesota corporations. The Cargills won't touch UMN for some reason. Curt Carlson's family has stopped caring about anything that doesn't bear the patriarchs name. The Casino funded people won't give because their aggitators believe the UMN is on their land.

The anarchists and hippies from the 1960s have succeeded in turning UMN into a money-repulsing school. It's not just athletically. Look at how effed the medical school is now that they want to separate from Fairview.

UMN has been fiscally mismanaged since the 1980s when they realized cuts needed to be made and the refusal to court large endowment gifts in the 50s and 60s was a bad idea.

UMN has never understood the need to have a self-sufficiency streak because they have tried too hard to exploit the land grant status of the school, relying too heavily on state funding and the political whims of the Twin Cities.

If you go out of the metropolitan region of Minneapolis & Saint Paul and talk to people, you will find that UMN has developed a generations deep distrust and even dislike, bordering on hatred, of UMN.

The outstate region is where losing sports teams mattered because that is where state pride really sits. Losing UMN teams was just another slap in the face to rural Minnesotans. Even the rise of the MNSCU (Mankato State, Bemidji State, Saint Cloud State, et al) system has been bolstered, in part, due to successful athletic programs.

TL;DR, the hippies and beatniks took power at UMN and are effing it up. No one wants to give money and they can't unseat that mentality.
I can feel my IQ (ID according to USAF) dropping the longer I read this

I have been highly critical of PJ myself, but I don't want to see him get fired. There is a 90% chance the next coach could be a Brewster/Fickell and about a .1% we get a Cignetti. Anything else in between will be another Fleck level coach.

I will say with Fleck, he needs to have good a good OC & DC in place to be successful.

I think he has recruited solid athletes and high character people to the program, but we need a OC & DC to make them successful.
Here, here😁

Really? Need money not a new head coach. Fire him and watch this program tank into the Wacker years. He's currently taking a 3-4 win a year operation and making it a 6-8 win a year operation.
Looking at the big ten, the gophers ,putting records aside ,might be the worst team in the big ten. Their 6 win total so far is deceiving. This Honestly is one of flecks worst teams, especially on the defensive side.

Accountability for what? Doing his best with less money than half the conference? You think it's better to have a coach that doesn't show emotion for his team? Are we living in opposite world here?

Completely agree. Hopefully with all of the head coaches that got fired this year, we can bring one of them in as an offensive coordinator. That don't cut it there but are great coordinators. There's got to be an offensive one out there that we can bring in this off-season for a couple years until they get another chance to become a head coach.
Get a defensive cord. Well their at it!

Always funny when people say, ignore the facts and listen to my bs instead.

Putting records aside, we're still upper half alphabetically.

It’s clear that this year is a rebuilding year for the team, as developmental programs like us will ALWAYS need to have. And yet, Fleck has given us incredible consistency that I think, I’ll say it, represents “ELITE” coaching at least by Minnesota standards. The fact that we have a freshman QB, very fresh players at a great deal of positions, injuries at RB and multiple new coordinators and position coaches and are 6-4 right now speaks to PJ’s ability to build a great program and culture. It may not be shiny, but it’s given us the most consistency we’ve had in a VERY long time.

Ask a Gopher fan a few decades if they would take 9-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5 and 6-4 (so at least 6-7) over a five year stretch and I don’t think I have to tell you what they would choose. Not even counting the 11-2 year.

"The Casino funded people won't give because their agitators believe the UMN is on their land."

The comment above is an absurd one. It is clear most people don't know the hatred of the Native Americans. The land that UMN is on has never been paid to the Natives. Why? They don't want it. They wanted to keep the land as they treasure good clean water, land and other resources. I don't believe they will ever get this money back. Due to their principals, they will never accept blood money.

As one who is learning more about the injustice of the Indians right here in Minnesota, I'm appalled at the lack of knowledge by everyone.

#truth. Well said and a much needed great reminder.

Or someone with an opinion which differs from yours😊
Oooo... let's be contrary and for contracts sake. It keeps us from getting to the truth of the matter.

If only the Epstein Files could be released then the diversion would be complete.

LOL at all the folks here that think this is the Golden Age. I’d say we deserve this garbage football but I don’t think most fans on the street agree with the Fleck bobos.
