The old west
Illinois 6-3, 9-3
Iowa 6-3, 8-4
Minnesota 5-4, 7-5
Nebraska 3-6, 6-6
Wisconsin 3-6, 5-7
Northwestern 2-7, 4-8
Purdue 0-9, 1-11

Looking at the who each team played.
Illinois played 4 of top 8 teams in the B1G
Iowa played 2
MN = 4
NE= 4
WI = 4

Pecking order makes sense. Beat the teams we should've based on the final standings sans Rutgers, if we had beaten them we're only up one spot. Beat a better team in Illinois. I won't shoulda/woulda/coulda the Iowa and Michigan games. Left some meat on the bone, let's do better next year. We're basically a mirror of Iowa in terms of record and points for/against - right about where we'd hope to be in terms of expectations if we're being realistic about the history of our program. Nice bounce back from last year considering the landscape change of the conference and the preseason prognostications.

Who did the 4-5 teams play?
Rutgers played 2 of top 8
Washington played 5 of top 8
USC played 3

Other 3-6 teams
UCLA played 5 of the top 8
Michigan State played 6

Michigan played 5

Obviously Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota way up. USC, Nebraska, and Wisconsin way down. Finishing 8th in the brand new 18 team conference is a pretty decent showing. Missed 3 of the top 4 teams but also 4 of the bottom 6. The middle of the conference was a freaking bloodbath and likely will be annually. So much parity.

Top 4 teams
Oregon played 3 of top 8
Penn State played 3
tOSU played 5
Indiana played 2
