Final AP Poll has Gophs at #30; Kirk Kenney is the brightest college football mind in America! 27th in coaches poll.

The spots behind Georgia would be tricky because there is not a clear cut #2 team in that bunch. TCU is an easy choice given the fact they were in the championship game but anyone who watched that game saw a team that looked like it had zero business being on the field with Georgia. Ohio State gave Georgia everything they could handle and then some but came up short and also had the lopsided home loss against Michigan. And Michigan had an impressive resume but managed to lose to TCU so would be tough to put them ahead of TCU.

Not that it really matters in the long run I guess.
Yes, in the end 2nd place is "first loser".

Gophers are properly ranked and the poll shows that more voters think they are better than some of the teams they lost to. Voters think MN was the 4th best team in the B1G this year.

However, TCU should not be #2. They are not better than MI, tOSU, and Alabama. They upset MI, a better team. However, many votes just vote them #2 because that is how they finished in the bracket. No chance 47 voters actually think TCU is the 2nd best team.
So you beat Michigan but then think that shouldn’t count? Of course they are #2. They made the championship game. Upsets count as wins.

Polls are rankings not standings. You think TCU is the 2nd best team in the country?

This has always been a point that bowl game proponents champion.

In a major tournament, every team but one ends their season on a loss. While with the bowl games, half of them get to end their season with a win.

FWIW

It's as though College Football has 40 NIT Tournaments for those outside the Top 4.

Looking back to 1935 for glory is far more pathetic than NE looking back to the 1990s for glory.

St Mary's was I believe supposed to play NDSU and SDSU at the FCS level when those two very first moved up, but folded their program at that time instead.
